Why is my mod acting like a plugin?

Brand new to modding. I made a simple lipstick mod that changes one vanilla lipstick to my new color. It is a .esp file. It really shouldn't have to take up a whole plugin spot and a couple people have requested it to be turned into a .esm file.

I took all the steps. In FO4EDIT it says it is a .esm but the file says .esp. I did change the extension manually but it still doesn't change the fact that it still acts like a .esp in that it takes up a plugin slot. What am I doing wrong?

They didn't request anything, they are just complaining BEFORE even downloading the mod, before they know how it works and what changes it makes, users like that should be just ignored or answered: "Don'like it - don't use it."

Thanks. I guess you can't please everyone all the time, eh? Especially as a modder. Lesson learned, I suppose.

You have to change the record flag in xEdit or Wrye from ESP to ESM if you want it flagged as a master - changing the extension in windows won't change anything as far as the game is concerned. In any case, the file will still take up a "mod slot" as you term it so it won't matter either way in regard to what the users are complaining about.
