Help on extracting a .mop from a savegame for others

Firstly my apologies. I know this questions HAS to have been asked, but after searching postings for the past 3 hours I just can't anymore.

So I created a character I want to share as a preset for others. I know how to extract it from my savegame as a .mor but how do I extract it as a .mop? That was people can just add it to their override folder and it'll already be in-game.

Someone please help lol

This cannot be done. A saved game does not contain the necessary info. The Character Creator process starts with a .mop, but what's put into the game is a .mor file.

One has to use the Toolset to create a facemorph which can then exported as a .mop file.

If you just want to let others use the exact same face you created, (not use it as the starting point in the CC) then you can use the DA Face Replacer to extract the .mor from your save and insert it into theirs.

Thank you for the information. I did as you suggested and used the face replacer and uploaded the .mor

As for a .mop, I figure I can just take the time and re-create it as best I can in the toolset. Is there anyway to copy the exact information from the .mor line by lone into the facemorph I will make in the Toolset? The look of the nose and the complexion are what's giving me the hardest time

Nope. For the same reason. The info needed is just not there.

If you're still interested, I managed to extract several of my morphs using a hex editor following the instructions listed here (Sorry, couldn't post a direct link for some unfathomable reason.):

whuffie.wordpress.com listed under "Reuse Any Warden's Face Any Time..."

It is possible to save the extracted binary as .mor or .mop with the appropriate prefixes for your character. Although the .mop will be an imperfect copy, it will show up in the CC, in my experience anyway...

Edit: Forgot to mention that to apply the morph, you have to edit your save game in the toolset or a save editor to apply it using your morph name in the appropriate field. The website mentioned above has a descriptive tutorial listed as

"Tutorial: Dragon Age Head Morph for PC."

@figmentz; Great link to a great blog!

The section of Whuffie's site you're talking about is:

How to import any Warden’s face without the original mrh or mor file. I created one with the Toolset and In-game character creator. I never could duplicate it, and this will show you how to turn that face into a .mor file you can use with another Warden at any time.

Along the way, Whuffie describes saving the "hex-edited" file as a .mop. As you noted, the resulting morph will NOT be identical to the original, but may be "close enough".

Yes, that's the one!

Thank you for linking it properly, I seem to be having technical issues with IE at the moment, or else I'm doing it wrong... :teehee:

The second page I mentioned has pics (I think?) of where to enter the name of the .mor in your save game data. It's a bit of work, but I was stubborn and wanted to figure out how to do it myself rather than using another mod, lol...I'm pretty happy with the results

(all two or three times I've used it.)

Yeah, Thandal is right. I followed this method and it was very different. the main thing was I couldn't get the Shedevil Eyes by Mr_Mrs_Shedevil to work after using the Hex editor to extract. I ended up just having to re-create the .mor from scratch. I just wish there was someway to make a .mop from the in-game cc.

But here's why I wanted to know in the first place. The finished products are here:

MARVEL's Jean Grey - The Phoenix
