ModBuddy - understanding DefaultMod Vs Empty Mod

Hi everyone,

 

What does the "DefaultMod" template do compared "Empty Mod"?

 

I made a mod using "DefaultMod" template and notice it includes loads of stuff under Src\XComGame\ that gets copied/compiled each build.

 

The folder appears to be base game classes... why would these be included?

What happens when the main game is patched and these files are out of date (but my mod still contains complied copy of old version)?

 

I suspect most (if not all) of it is not required for my Mod - how can I determine what I can remove safely?
