Wooden Mask

Hi everyone,

I bet some of you ended up in the dragon shrine while fighting the frost trolls to get to the greybeards.

Once I discovered the mask and saw the shrine in a different time and felt as if a quest should of been added

to my journal. Before spoiling myself by looking into it on teswiki skryim, I thought I could wear the mask and

see some ruins and special places and maybe by time distortion get acces to places where you couldn't go

since they were damaged through time just to figure out that there isn't such an epic quest and treasures except

the fact that you have to randomly find thoses masks in some ruins from some dragons priests ?

My point here and also my question, isn't there a book or a story that would tell me more about the origins in-game ?

Cause I'd feel disappointed to just look on teswiki to find thoses masks as if I was running for a random quest compared

to gta4 kill all the flying rats. A self imposed quest with no storyline ?

Correct me if i'm wrong because I'd like to be, At least I could feel as if I was playing instead of looking on teswiki to know

where the masks can be found. I'd like to work for it a little like some hints or follow some in game legends and possible directions.

Else it just feels like OK I go there clear the dongeon and that it ?

If you have the retail copy of Skyrim then 7 of the 8 masks are located at

locations marked on the paper map with little x's (there are more x's than masks) One, however can only be obtained as a part of the main plot and and cannot be re-visited and doesn't have an x.

I must confess it took me a while to find the last mask.

Failing that, or if really stuck ...

BIG SPOILER

Ok thanks for that info but i feel sad but let's say there wasn't teswiki, how could I have possibly find thoses masks ?

There are no content such as books in the game that would lead to them ?

It's sad don't you think ? I mean It's the thing that got me hyped the most in the game yet and I just figure out that

it is just some mask that you find without any fun quests related. I imagine I would see other shrines or full ruins in

another time or parallel universe or something...areas unconnected to the skyrim map.

Guess If I was a modder or there was an expansion i'd make thoses shrines more content wise....just a thought there...

So there really is no content in game indicating or leading to them ? I need an answer :)

no just that there is no quest abou it.

I would have liked to ask around in the winterhold college as an example and get info from rumors.

Was there even a letter with the dead body and the first mask ? i don't remember..

There's books telling of the of ancient dragon priests, and the loading tool tips talk of them too. Two of them at least have their own quests, one for the college of Winterhold, one is a random quest which will trigger once you get to a certain fort. The other one you get as a random dragon extermination quest from the whiterun guard (its in miscellaneous).

The wooden mask only works for that particular place. The rest of the masks its just, having the map as flobalob said or stumbling upon them while dungeon crawling in nord ruins.

btw, Krosis and Volsung > all

Though, Krosis actually means like void, sorrow or something along those lines, so when i was around dungeons and the Draugr said something like "Unslaad krosis!" i thought they recognised that i was wearing Krosis's mask :(

I'd have liked some backstory for each dragon priest, specially the... um... "last one" that you encounter. He had to have a very nice story for being in such place.

Didn't the one in the Rift had a backstory why they were there? There was an old journal I found there that told of how the dragon priests got into that fort in the first place.

chanchan, you mean there was a letter right at the first shrine ? I don't remember...

No. What shrine are you talking about? You mean the ones on the way to the greybeards? I have no idea on that, since I did not notice it. I only got 3 dragon masks on my abandoned character: 1 I got from a dragonpriest fort. When I got there I found a soldier there who gave me a quest to enter the fort and i got the mask. The second was in a tomb, not sure if it was the Reach or Falkreath, but about their borders. A ghost gave me the mission when I entered. The other I know is part of the Mage College questline, since a friend got it from there. The other was Krosis, which I picked up when I went to kill one of the dragon walls the Whiterun guard mentions.
