Texture Turorial?

I personally use Paint.net for my texturing.

Anyway, first off I want to suggest that you take time making your UV maps because I have the hardest time texturing when I let Blender unwrap for me and certain faces overlap in bad places.

Nxt, make sure you know how to use layer functions. When I work on a specific part of a texture (blade, or hilt, or something) I will fill it all in one color, then copy-paste into a new layer and work in that layer only. Once I have that part done, I just merge that layer downward onto the base picture.

As far as design, try to find something similar to what you want in a picture or something. Then paste that into your picture. Use some of photoshops effects like noise, blur, and things like that to add some texture to metal surfaces.

Like for example, use a copper and white color set, then make a diagonal gradiant. Add a fair amount of noise, then motion blur in the same direction as the gradiant. Viola, you've got a great brushed metal look. You can find little tutorials like that all over the net. I found that one while trying to design a texture for some Mechwarrior mechs I modeled.

Not many modders use photoshop, its too expensive. Most use one of the free progs.

Unless you can get it under a student discount. The college I go too can get Adobe software legally for dirt cheap, and they have the entire adobe suit already installed in this one on-campus computer lab.

Well thats to bad, photoshop is a lot better than free programs like the gimp.

Matter of opinion. I absolutely hate Photoshop's UI, personally. :D I wouldn't switch even if I could afford it. This is why all my tutorials are for the GIMP.

If you need the more advanced features for professional-level projects, of course that's another thing; but I've found GIMP more than adequate for my Oblivion and DAZ projects thus far.
