Bogrim
One of the things that can make Skyrim loot really dull is the fact that you rarely ever find items in your loot that are useful. This is because of the crafting system, which makes crafted and improved weapons better than anything you could ever find in the world. This usually means when you find a big chest full of loot, the only items actually useful to you are gold, gems and potions. The new Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild takes a really interesting spin on this concept by giving all weapons a finite durability. After using the weapon for a certain amount of swings, it simply breaks and you need to equip a new one. This means that weapon drops continue being useful through the entire game, since you're always in need of new weapons. It also makes crafting stay relevant, since it helps supply you with new and stronger weapons. The game also takes a different approach to unique weapons, which can be repaired for a really expensive fee, making the player think twice about which fights to use them in. If anyone would be interested in creating such a mod, I'm certain lots of people besides myself would enjoy this style of play. Here's what I'd imagine the mod would entail: - All weapons have durability.- Once a weapon's durability is up, it breaks and is removed from the player's inventory.- The decay of the weapon's durability could depend on factors like the player's level of skill. E.g. a character with 15 one-handed skill would break swords much faster than someone with 75 one-handed skill.- The amount of durability could vary depending on the type of weapon. E.g. ancient weapons from draugr and cheap weapons like iron would have a much lower durability than ebony or daedric weapons.- Artifact weapons (e.g. Dawnbringer) would not disappear from the player's inventory, but instead turn into a broken state ("Broken Dawnbringer") and require expensive materials to repair (e.g. add a craft recipe for Dawnbringer requiring Broken Dawnbringer + Grand Soul Gems + Dwarven Ingots). You could expand this further by making the effectiveness of the repair scale with the player's smithing skill, so a skilled smith could restore the weapon to its full durability while an inexperienced smith might only get a few more swings. Is this something any modder would be interested in creating? :-)
