Question: 'dead' space on objects

I wondering if the extra empty space on objects can be removed. I mean, you look at stuff sitting on a shelf, and it looks like it's floating just above the shelf. I go to take a really awesome screenie of myself, and notice I'm floating above the ledge I'm supposed to be standing on. What is this? Is this something that can be removed from the objects? Can their 'invisible' borders be trimmed down?

I don't know a thing about meshes, but if it possible to remove this space, I might just learn.

I have not seen much of this on normal shelves, but i have seen it a lot of you try placing something on the top of a bookshelf, if that is the case, the problem is way bookshelves are build together with invisible markers, triggers and a container. If you are talking about shelves or surfaces in general, we would need to alter the collison box in a modeling program..not sure if that's what they are called..hitbox? Not sure about that though, never touched furniture in blender or 3ds max, only armors and weapons.

Ah lol, i even knew about that mod, but i forgot about it too :P

Already done; http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=4402

Thanks for the thread though, I almost forgot about it, glad to have a reminder I needed to download it.

Thank you! At least someone has gotten started on the bookshelves!

Related question: would altering these 'collison boxes' on objects (such as big rocks) affect clipping and getting stuck in the scenery? I mean, is there a reason why some of them are so much bigger than the object depicted?

Skyrim is big. It would take a long, long time and lots of people to make sure that every single surface was perfect. I'm guessing the design team was just happy with a general contiguousness between the collision boxes and the textures.
