EzekielMaddox
Okay, a little introduction about myself so you can get a better understanding of where I'm coming from. First off, I'm fairly virginal when it comes to PC gaming, I've been a heavy console gamer for the majority of my life. The only real PC games I played were the original Unreal/ Unreal Tournament and Dark Age of Camelot (MMO) so I really don't know much about PC games and the modding aspect. It was actually earlier today that game modding caught my eye when I was looking up Skyrim videos on Youtube. After seeing some for Skyrim, and a few for Fallout 3 a long time ago, it piqued my interest but I need advice. For starters, I'm currently single and enlisted in the military which means I don't really have the option of owning a desktop computer since more times than not, I won't be in the same place for more than a few months. The computer I do have is brand new, bought it less than a week ago. Its a HP Pavilion G7-1265 nr Notebook PC. When I bought it, I wasn't really planning on playing a lot of video games on it because I have my consoles. While looking though some videos of Skyrim modding, I picked up on them talking about how well computers could handle the mods with the games and deal with lagging and whatnot. I'm not too computer savvy but I wouldn't need a tricked out Alienware laptop to play Skyrim with some of the advanced graphic mods and extra content would I? I haven't bought the game yet and I probably wont without seeking more knowledgeable sources first. I've also caught wind of Bethesda and Valve teaming up and coming out with a Creation Kit that should be released in the next few days and that caught my attention as well. Reminded me of the GECK (Garden of Eden Creation Kit) from FO3. I don't know how much potential and capability my computer has but I'd really like to get into modding, not just as a consumer but also as a producer but I'm not sure where to start. gmillar
If your computer can run Skyrim it can run it with mods. Maybe not some of the really graphics intensive ones.
WiseMan999
What you need depends on what you want to do, but like gmillar says if your laptop can run it then it can run it with mods (except possibly some of the really resource-intensive texture mods). The Creation Kit is coming out soon so there's no point in starting with SkyEdit, but if you want to make new weapons you'll need Blender, and a few other things that you can be directed to here. There are tutorials here too. I would familiarize myself with these tools before the CK comes out if you can. There are loads of Blender tutorials on their website by the way. Hope this helps :D. pekkape
There are loads of different laptops out there and most of them are not made for high end 3D games. Most cheap laptops use an internal intel graphic card that steal 8Mb from the computers internal memory, compared to a real 3D graphic card that has 512Mb-1Gb memory of its own. So what type of laptop do you have? Did you buy a good laptop for gaming with a proper 3D graphic card inbuilt? CK will have a small 3D window that will not take as much resources from your computer as the game itself will. So maybe modding will be possible to do with the laptop but not playing the game. I even think modding will be possible to do on the cheap laptop with 8Mb mem but you also want to test your changes in game while modding so make sure that you have a proper laptop that are able to do the job. To get started with CK, I know to 90% that Bethesda will publish some good tutorials, as they did that for Oblivion 5 years ago already.Asking me if it is worth it, buying Skyrim is like asking a child if they like candy or not. ;) I hope that will answer one of your questions. Playing Skyrim on consol is not an option as there will come so many good mods when CK comes.
EzekielMaddox
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03072346&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=5199558 Well, those are the specs of my computer. Most of it is Greek to me. But maybe you guys would be able to tell me how well it would work on my computer. Im guessing it has a somewhat decent graphic card since it kinda advertises it right next to the touchpad on the computer. Its got a game controller and a film icon and says "Radeon Graphics". WiseMan999
That should be fine, but I think it might struggle on Ultra. I'm not an expert though so you should ask others before deciding. Coincidentally, I'm writing this on my HP g6 laptop, but I don't have Skyrim on it as I have a better desktop that was built for gaming :D. gofer32
I tried Skyrim on a slightly lower spec laptop than that and it was bearable. Not great, but certainly playable. Your laptop exceeds the minimum requirements as well.
