[LE] Importing .dds files into new texture sets

I'm trying to import .dds files as new texture options

I'm practicing right now with some fabric textures I got off google and converted to .dds in paint.net, but am having problems with CK crashing every time I select one of those fabric.dds for importing into a new textue set.

Only one so far has been something I can load in as a new texture (137 KB it also came out shinier than expected). I checked the size on some of the files and thought they might be too big (267 KB lol) but others are much smaller than the fabric.dds I succeeded with, around 15 KB

Each time I select another .dds file to see if it will work, CK ends up crashing, and I can't even stop it trying so I can at least give another one a go before having to load the whole dang thing up again. I even waited 20 minutes one time because I read somewhere that CK might freeze up and just process hard for a couple of minutes but it did not unfreeze

Any ideas about what might be happening are greatly appreciated.

Attached original downloaded google images for anyone interested. Fabric 04 is the one that worked and its file size grew to 137KB when converted to .dds, 07 and 12 crashed the CK and shrunk to 93KB and grew to 18KB respectively.

EDIT: Or if anyone just wants to comment telling me they've no idea because it looks right to them and maybe the CK just hates me, that is an acceptable answer.

If anyone knows a good guide for making new textures, I'd appreciate that too.

Looking through it might help me pinpoint what's wrong, but what I find has to do with making new objects with a dedicated texture instead of just adding a new texture option in texture sets or is about unpacking Skyrim's textures.

I just went through the same ordeal and figured out the textures need to be 512x512. In photoshop go to image size and change it to that and it should work. I doubt you guys are still facing this issue but in case anyone else finds this, like I did.

Make sure at the end of editing the .dss you flatten the whole picture. Each texture has a size that is stated in the .nif file. If you don't follow that it will also crash. You can edit the .nif file texture size too.

Maybe try this to get started. Find an object with a texture and back up the texture. Use that .dss ... clear and place your pic over it.

Flatten everything and save.

Edit: I've never used paint.net not sure of the options on it. I use a combo of GIMP for .dss files and Ultimate Paint (both free).
