Silithas
Hello. In gta IV i managed to get an command txt file to allow the game to use ram as video memory and could then use over 1.6gb video memory and no lag on the game with my old gtx 460 with 760mb. But in skyrim i use all my video memory up as once so that i have to use medium texture quality and have 250mb video memory left of 1.280 mb. Is there any smiliar ways to enable skyrim to use ram as an assist for video memory? or is this impossible?
pchclx
i would love to be able to do this. a way to share system RAM as VRAM would be huge
Thor.
I think all games should have this feature, especially with video cards with 1gb of vram, it'll make the video card not work as hard. especially if you have 8gb of ddr at 1866mhz like me, it would be nice for a change to use some of that ram thats just sitting there doing nothing. pchclx
especially because, with skyrim, my RAM literally is sitting there doing nothing. i never use more than a gig or two of system RAM and my GPU is working full throttle at or around 100% at all times
Thor.
I wish someone would make a offload feature for system ram, it would be a giant leap for any video card, especially with systems with lots of ram. eltucu
Dude, every single game out there does that, they would crash or produce artifacts otherwise. When you get to the top of vRAM utilization, the game starts to stream content from cached assets in RAM that are preloaded from the HDD. Since RAM is kinda far from the GPU and way slower than vRAM, you start to see popping around cuz the game cant render stuff fast enough if streaming things from RAM. Thats why you see total RAM usage of Skyrim/Oblivion/Fallout increase as the texture mods increase. Actually, the whole MegaTexture thing of Rage revolves around this issue taking it to the next level.
Thor.
Hmm you miight be right there, but not all games do that, for instants Crysis lol. It uses 100% gpu. then it starts to bogg down. Edited January 30, 2012 by Thor.
