Hexrowe
I haven't been able to reproduce it myself, but this happens to some users of my 25mm Pistol mod: Could it be a texture compression error? Something to do with bronze_e.dds, an effect I assumed would be present by default so didn't include in the mod? Just a corrupted download? Or what? Jebbalon
I don't know about NV but I have seen that when using the Skip Mip Map ini setting (in Skyrim)1. tell users not to use that setting ... or better option would be.....2. Save your texture with mipmaps included - I think it is an option when saving the texture as .DDS If that doesn't work maybe this info will at least help you eliminate it as a cause. Hexrowe
Yeah, "generate mipmaps" is an option when exporting a DDS from GIMP. Might be I forgot to turn it on it in this instance? Will try exporting the textures again, see if it helps.
dubiousintent
It also matters which DXT codec you use. Recommend looking over the "Working with DDS/DXT Files" article by Gary "Buckaroo" Neely. -Dubious- Edited March 17, 2017 by dubiousintent
Hexrowe
Ooh, I knew about the different codexes (learned the hard way, working with some icons and trying to save them as DXT1 :) ) but there are a couple of other pointers in that article I wasn't aware of. Thanks!
rickerhk
I think that happens to some hi-rez textures when the user has their texture setting turned down in the game options.
Hexrowe
Assuming that's the case, what can I do to prevent it?
rickerhk
Tell them to go the the game menu Settings->Display->Texture size, and set it to large. Or offer a low-rez option with a texture of 512x512 or 256x256 instead of 1024x1024
Hexrowe
Problem solved! It does seem to have been the mipmaps, i.e. PEBKAC on my part. Thanks for the help, everybody! Edited March 18, 2017 by Hexrowe
cmaesing
Apologies for necroing an old post - but I prefer having solutions in the same place vs others having to criss cross over several related forum entries. That said, I today came across the same issue (albeit in a different location). And after searching the net for an hour or so came across the solution that did it for me: As rickerhk has pointed out above, under the game's display settings, I accidentally had switched from "large" to "small" textures. Going back to "large" textures resolved this immediately. Hope this helps anyone else who might encounter the same problem.
