Oberthur
Theres a plethora of items on the forum to read and I've done what's in my knowledge. I don't quite understand alot of the terminology and may have very well read over what I'm looking to do. I have the creation kit and I'm trying to replace the default Orc male blind eyes for the glowing eyes they recieve as a Vampire. I've created an .esp and created a duplicate of the Orc eyes to edit, but when I thought I did so I went in-game and tried the race creation menu and found I didn't do a thing. Any help is surely appreciated, 800+ hours in skyrim so it's worth it to me.
Algabar
Hmm... There should be two ways to achieve what you're looking for: 1. Use the CK: Basically, you will have to change the texture path for the diffuse map (1st texture from the top in the CK window) of the texture set "EyesMaleOrcBlind" to the vampire eyes. 2. Without CK: Simply replacing the texture in your Skyrim/Data directory. If it's not already there, create the following subfolder in your Skyrim/data directory: textures/actors/character/eyes. Copy the Vampire eye texture to that subfolder. Rename it to "EyeOrcBlind.dds". Using a duplicate of the texture set in the CK won't work, because Skyrim will look for the set named "EyesMaleOrcBlind". If your duplicated asset has a different name, it won't be recognized. You will have to edit the original. Don't worry - you can't delete anything of the original Skyrim files in the CK. Worst case is that you get an esp file, that doesn't work, but can easily be deleted... On a sidenote: If using method one (CK), make sure to place the vampire eyes texture somewhere in the "textures" folder. Textures outside this folder tend to be ignored by the game.. Oberthur
I'm using Steam, and thus my file folders may look a bit different. I've quite a few .bsa files, one of which being "textures.bsa". Is that where my texture files that I want to switch/replace are located? I'm not sure how to open a .bsa file or how to open it in the CK. Update: Opened CK, scrolled down to "all" and entered "eyes" in search. Found what I believe is the right file for "EyesMaleOrcBlind", and right clicking gave me the "edit" option. I then had a new window which has the diffuse map you mentioned, but when I click to change its path, the search box only looks for ".dds" file extentions, which aren't available in the search window. That file I believe is in my textures.bsa. Just downloaded bsa browser, extracted the "eyesorcblind" and "eyesvampire_01" into skyrim data folder, and then I just renamed them to eachother. It worked, however I didn't recieve the "glow" that those eyes recieve as a vampire. Serana looks alright blind, her eyes still glow regardless that her pupils are missing. Still working on this, gonna get it right. Edited March 18, 2017 by Oberthur
Algabar
My mistake - I didn't think of the "glow" on vanilla vampire eyes. I use eye texture replacers, that disable it... The problem is that there is probably a "glow map" in the vanilla vampire eyes texture sets; Look for the texture set of the vampire eyes in the CK. It's something like "MaleEyesVampireNord". You'll find it, if you search for "vampire". Compare this texture set to "EyesMaleOrcBlind". Very likely you'll notice a "Glow map" entry in the vampire eyes, which isn't there in the other set. I hope, things really are that way. I don't have the original textures at hand to check ATM. So this is just drawing conclusions from my limited knowledge of weapon textures... If there IS a glow map, you have several options:1 If you want blind vampires without glowing eyes, work with the vampire texture set: Delete the glow map entry and change the diffuse map to the blind texture you already have extracted. Save the file and don't forget to enable the plugin you just made.2. If you want vampire orcs with glowing eyes, the process is basically the same. There's just an additional step: You will have to extract the glow map .dds file from the .bsa archive first, so that you can select in the CK and add it to the "EyesMaleOrcBlind" texture set. Hope, that makes sense... EDIT: Just noticed that I made another mistake: Changing textures the way I tried to describe will change the eyes of ALL NPCs using these textures. If you want vampire orcs, that might be okay. There just will be another orc with glowing eyes sometimes. If you want a blind Serana, this will be a problem - all Vampires will be blind. I don't think THAT will be okay. If you want to have a blind Serana, you will have to create an eyes texture set as I described, but give it a different name than the default set. Then you will have to open "DLC1Serana" (she's called something like that in the CK) and assign her new eyes in the "CharacterGenParts" tab. Oh dear, this is getting complicated... Oberthur
RIght, I'm trying now to determine the glow map on all dawnguard vampires, seeing as the glow originates with the expansion. I've been looking at Malkus, the Orc vampire NPC you come across, and he's got the eyes and their glow that I would like for my character Orc. It did get complicated, and quickly at that... Update: So opening bsa browser, selecting the archive for dawnguard, and extracting what eye textures Malkus the orc vampire had into the specified folder you suggested I create worked, save the glow. I went to the CK, and in the "all" tab searched eyes. I selected two files for MaleOrcEyesRed, and I'm unfamiliar with terminology so I can't tell you what files they were, but they both pertained to the red eyes of male orcs. I chose the eye textures Malkus had that was extracted in substitution of the red eyes option in character creation. It was saved as a .esp, and loading my save file I saw immediately it worked, but without the glow. I am so close to finishing this I must go on!!
