Snapless
How do I get the mannequins to retain the 'setrace' info? Every time I log out of the game and back in - the mannequin heads (and only the heads) have reverted back to the default wood. I know there is a mod that will change all the mannequins in all the vanilla houses...I'm not looking for a mod. I have created quite a few mannequins, rescaled them to doll size, and placed them on shelves to 'showcase' my armor collection. I'd like the mannequins to be a particular race...unfortunately I keep running into this graphic reset.
throttlekitty
in the bsa:textures\actors\character\facegendata\facetint\skyrim.esm\is a collection of baked textures npcs use, named by actors' formid. Maybe SkyEdit or somesuch can help you find the formids for the mannequins in your house? I'm not sure what to suggest for actually editing this texture. Maybe the NPC Editor tool would help here? That would edit the texture overall for all mannequins, but I'd like different races on different mannequins. What I'm looking for is why their faces (and only their faces) keep resetting every time I load.
throttlekitty
Ah, I wasn't very clear, sorry. Each of those textures in that folder are a face texture for an NPC introduced by skyrim.esm. So if you're modifying one of those mannequin npc faces to reflect the race change, that's where you'd need to look.
Snapless
So now that there are more modders out there...and since I didn't get an answer to my question: I'm looking for an answer as to why after setting mannequin races with 'setrace' via console, mannequin faces (and only their faces) keep resetting every time I exit and reload the game. I don't need to be told how to mod the default mannequin texture. If that is what I wanted to do, I'd do it.
throttlekitty
Still the same answer, but looking back, i neglected to mention the models in:Meshes\actors\character\facegendata\facegeom\skyrim.esm\And now that the CK is out, i can see that 00089a85.nif is the one used by "PlayerHouseMannequin" Those head files I mentioned before are referencing the textures for the mannequin face texture. Each time the game loads, it reads that file after the racial settings from the plugin, which is why the bodies stick, but not the heads. It's not a matter of setting the default texture, as heads are a special case in Skyrim, each actor has one of these files.
throttlekitty
One solution would be to create a small plugin with a duplicate of the PlayerHouseMannequin actor, and replace the existing ones for your home with it. This should (hopefully*) work with your setrace changes, without changing the existing mannequins, since it won't be associated with that head file. *The game and creation kit currently have an issue with plugin-added NPCs not keeping face texture\tint\warpaint changes in-game. But setrace should apply a default set of these, and hopefully be unaffected by this issue.

That right there is the actual answer to my question. All the extra stuff you kept posting...I already knew. I am quite capable of modding. I just wanted to know WHY this was happening.
