Poorly defended

Now that wont be a Problem. Well, if your invading Forces couldnt use the Forts because they where maintained and in use, they would build teleporters in Caves oder better yet, in Ayleid Ruins.

Something like "the magical Properties of the Ayleid Buildings are perfectly suitable to conceal the massive Amounts of magical Energies needed for a Teleporting Device from beeing dedected by the mages Council." could serve as an Explanation, for you need to know how an Invading force would get there and why someone didnt try this very basic Idea a bit sooner.

Remember, the mages Guild can even Sense that the Count of Skingrad is a Vampire. So they surely would notice if anyone starts building and enchanting Portals to move Armies around.

That would be an Idea for a mod. If someone wants to use this, feel free.

The Goal to this Mod could be to find some secret Goodies with which a Mage could "fine tune" his senses further to be able to tell the Difference between the Ayleid Magic and the Teleportation thingy. And then the Playerchar goes where the Mage points him and slaughters everyone and everything. Shoot at everything that moves. And shoot at everything that doesnt move, just to be sure.

Well, back to the Forts:

At Least some Forts would be maintained. And if its just to honor those who fought and died there.

Maybe there could be a Fort now used by either Monks or Crusaders. Or maybe mages, faithful to the nine and in the Service of the imperial Legion.

In Gothic 2 (do not confuse this with the failed attempt to create a third installment of the Franchise) was the Abby of the Firemages. The Music of Kai Rosenkranz is simply great, nothing like the Music from Mr. Soule, but Soules Soundtrack of Morrowind gives me similar Goosebumps.

The Music in that Firemages Abby was soothing and, to put it simple, beautiful.

Combined with the Looks of a giant Imperial Fort this would give you an incredible atmosspheric Feel.

Okay, you've got a point there, but ayleid ruins would serve the purpose even better, because if the mages run out of energy they just take the welkynd stones and if the force wants better weapons for their stonger fighters there is always the varla stones.

You can't really do much if they invade the aylied ruins and use portals, cause if you send a detachment of troops they'd have to go real slow through the ruin because of traps and that should give the attackers enough time to kill the investigating squad.

Theres not much to think about, as Cyrodiil wont be invaded.

If there where any Force with both a motivation and the manpower there would be some Fortifications.

Now how they would look like, i do not know. There is more than one angle to look at this.

First, the Lore angle: This is ridiculously hard. No one knows what this Army could do, why they would do it and how they do it, whatever "it" is. But basically, the Elder Council will want to muster large Forces and spread them to any valuable Point. The Cities, strategic Points like Dive Rock and so on.

Scouts would patrol every Point of value. Which Points are valuable? Well, as we dont know what Army X wants, we dont even know that.

Forces will be mobilized, Scouts will be patrolling. That much can be said, but thats about it.

To think about more, one would have to have more Information. The Lore doesnt give much Information on a subect like this. Sure, there are some Stories of Ancient Battles fought by Heroes and their Armies, but theres nothing that tells us how the unknown Factor, the Magic, can be used in Battle.

Can Magic be used on lifeless Objects? Can a Mage skilled in Alteration hurl large Boulders? Or make large Boulders being hurled at him weigthless?

Can a Mage prevent another Mage from casting Magic?

Can a Mage skilled in Alteration move a Mountain and crush Enemy forces? Can another Mage prevent that?

Can a Mage skilled in Illusion trick the Minds of the Enemy Army into thinking that their Forces are vastl outnumbered?

Well, Nobody knows. Until Bethesda says so. And then i would ask myself why this and that Method wasnt used in this and that Battle a thousand Years ago.

There is another angle to look at this: "ingame Realism". Think of something you would do as a Leader of a large Army in the TES World.

I would have People enchant their asses off. Master Armorers would hammer this enchanted Gear to 125%. Alchemists would brew many many Potions for different uses. For Example, i would have a Special Squad to charge in and kill Enemy Leaders. To do this, they will need the Speed Attribute as high as possible. They will need enchanted gear with Shield Magic. And of Course, Weapons with high enchantment Damage. The Charge wont have to last very long.

This Group may be used after i pulled the Enemy Defenes apart, by Bowmen with enchanted Area Damage Arrows, some of them with Silence effects.

In the Lore, there would be no Description about the Magic effects used to do things. Magic in the Lore is a different thing. I could use magic somehow to increase the hearing of my Troops, so i may spread them as far as i can see and they still would be able to hear my whispered Commands.

With "Oblivion Realism" i may use Troops with enchantet gear which gives them 100% Shield.

With Lore realism, i have heroes to do some impossible Things, like shooting Arrows over courtyard through a keyhole.

This can be blended: I can magically Poison the enemies Water Supply.

But, as we dont know who would invade Cyrodiil, for what Reason and how they would do it, we cant think of any Defenses.

Well natural defences lets see... South, is the sea? East, Morrowind and provinces, North the Mountains, and err i cant remember west... but they are all provinces of Tamriel, i suppose we could say that they wont attack eachother, or, my personal Sadistic thought, of that if they get attacked, they are utterly stuffed... and its a game and good luck having two hundred indipendant AI infantrymen coming up against you haha, i think i would sit on a rock and just fire arrows... i might have to add some in CS and see what happens!
