runescapenoob28
So I've been trying to open the .dds file for the Veteran Ranger armour in GIMP, and whenever I attempt to open it, it says either the .dds header is invalid and that the .dds file itself is invalid. Is there a problem with the .dds files or is it GIMP?
Deleted23328924User
Did you install the .dds plugin for GIMP? https://code.google.com/archive/p/gimp-dds/downloads or http://registry.gimp.org/node/
runescapenoob28
Yes, I did.
runescapenoob28
It says "Invalid DDS File," "Invalid DDS Header," and "DDS image plug-In could not open image." I do not know what is wrong, I installed the plug-in correctly and everything seems to function except for the DDS opener.
runescapenoob28
Also, whenever I try to open DDS files in paint.net, it doesn't work.
dubiousintent
Interesting problem. With a little digging on the web I found out there are a lot of "sub-formats" for DDS files and not all are readable by every program. Here is a 'DX11 DDS files, "Invalid image file header"' thread discussing the issue with a possible solution involving file conversion. "DDS Converter" is an alternative free DDS to various other formats tool that lets you view the DDS file first, and can batch process. Make sure you are using the correct version of your tools. FNV is a 32-bit game, so you need to use 32-bit versions of tools. 64-bit versions are not the same and do not output 32-bit compatible files. Let me know what works best for you and I'll see about getting it into the "Getting started creating mods using GECK" article. -Dubious-
