duberdicus
Hi everyone. So I just got into modding. The game is great but I wished to improve the graphics a little bit. And does it look gorgeous this way! Currently I'm using Skyrim HD - 2k textures + Skyrim Flora Overhaul, and while the game doesn't stutter with Skyrim HD alone it does with Skyrim Flora Overhaul . I believe this isn't a matter of my computer being slow, though. I have 6gb DDR3, a HD4870 1gb GDDR5, and an i7 920, using Very High graphics settings. I do not feel like the game is being slow. It just "stutters", as if it is loading textures all the time. I don't know. It certainly doesn't feel like "lag". Could anyone give me a few hints? All the Mods are updated and so is the game. MShoap13
1.3.10 updated or 1.4.21 Beta updated? The Beta offers vast optimization improvements so forests with lots of leaves, towns with lots of people, etc (all the CPU intensive stuff) runs a loot smoother on the Beta. The official patch is due out some time next week and probably won't change much compared to the current Beta patch. In the mean time, if you're worried about possible side effects of the Beta or whatever, you can always grab SkyBoost. It makes similar optimizations as the Beta patch, but it does it on the fly so it's not quite as effective. Also, you should keep in mind that 4K/2K textures are usually overkill and make little to no noticeable difference on resolutions smaller than 2560x1440. The game uses complex algorithm's to determine which mip map (resized version) of a texture to actually apply to an object in-game. Due to that, the vast majority of the time 2K textures aren't even used on a 1920x1080 screen, it uses the 1K mip map instead. Unfortunately, the game still eats all the extra RAM that the 2K texture uses as it loads all available mip maps of the texture into memory at one time (2K,1K,512...). And map sizes are exponential, so the amount of RAM 2k versions use is somewhere on the order of 3 1/2 times the amount a 1K version would use. In general, Skyrim has issues with memory management, so looking for 1k versions of your texture replacers (and avoiding 4K versions, period) is advised. I'll give a look to the textures' size and later I'll say if I sorted it out or not.
