mcconnel
I built a new machine to run Skyrim. Core i7-2600K - Stock CoolerMSI N570GTX Twin Frozr III PE/OC GeForce GTX 570 Fermi16GB Corsair DDR3 RAMIntel DZ68DB MotherboardIntel 160GB 320 Series SSDNice case, single front intake and single rear exhaust fans. Its a nice machine, to be sure. I installed Skyrim, set all to ultra and off I went. I installed a few mods, nothing crazy fancy. The HD textures, flora and fauna stuff, map w/ roads. Nothing I think is a performance killer for this machine. QUESTIONS: 1) I run FRAPS to check FPS. It pins at 60FPS indoors, always. Maybe a bounce lower but nothing serious. Im getting 20-30 FPS outdoors, it bounces all over the place but is actually noticeable. Are those FPS correct for this setup? Shouldn't I be getting higher FPS outdoors and if so how do I do it? 2) Im running SpeedFan to check temps. When I stop playing it reports all FIRE icons on all indicators. They quickly go back down to nice little green checkmarks. I can report back with exact temps but Im wondering if this is normal? Im worrying. 3) My video card allows for lots of over-clocking via its MSI Afterburner software. Should I muck with that and if so, how? The GPU fan NEVER spins up to an audible pitch, never spins up to 50% or anything near 100%. Should it be spinning up on its own to an audible roar (as I am kind of expecting)? Thanks all! mcconnel
UPDATE: The behavior is OCCASIONAL. My FPS will start to tank out, either indoors or out. Restart the game, all is well again. Whats going on here?
ProjectVRD
I assume you are using SLi? Try without it.
