Nexus Mod Manager copying shortcuts instead of actual files?

Lately I've been having an issue with custom gun mods- almost all of them that don't use vanilla sounds have no sound other than reverb/echo.

Upon investigation I found that when NMM installs these gun mods it is placing shortcuts to the sound files instead of copying the actual sound files. Because these sound files are inside of a RAR, the shortcuts are useless.

Does anyone know a fix to this? I thought it had something to do with compression levels but it's still installing the mods incorrectly at no compression whatsoever. I also tried different compression formats.

As for now I have to manually install all gun mods, which can be a tad annoying because that means I have to manually uninstall them if I don't like them.

Alright, looks like the issue was that my virtual install folder was on a different drive. Apparently the shortcuts work so long as the virtual install is on the same drive, but they do not work if your virtual install folder is on a different drive.

Glad you posted this and your solution. I just ran into the same problem after moving my F04 install to my SSD. Ran into issues with NMM placing shortcuts for ba2 archives instead of placing the actual file. I'd totally forgotten NMM didn't like it's virtual folders being on a different drive to the game.
