CHASE6
Hi All, I recently installed a GTX 1080, replacing a GTX 760 and in most games have experienced a huge upgrade in performance. Skyrim SE, Fallout 4, Battlefield 1, CODs IW and MWR all run at 60fps at max settings (Skyrim and Fallout both heavily modded, too). However, Oblivion runs at no higher a framerate than it did before. Sometimes I hit about 40-50, but mostly it runs around 30 and will slow down to around 10, at times. I am wondering is there something inherent to this game that makes it run slowly? Or, is there something I could be doing to remedy this? Thanks. Moksha8088
There is something definitely wrong. Otherwise, you would be asking about Vsync to slow Oblivion down to a playable rate.

beldaran1224
Just want to go with the obvious, in case you might have missed it. Do you have any mods that cap your FPS, like OSR? Double check any inis for these types of mods to make sure you don't have a cap enabled or that it is set much higher. This doesn't explain the drops to 10 FPS, though. Also, the bottleneck for Oblivion is often your processor. Since you mention it often drops, have you noticed when it does so? What processor are you using and what kind of mods? On SE and F4, ENB cap is 60 and that's what I get. As far as mods go, aside from content mods, I have a lot of texture mods. But, I also use a lot of 4K mods for SE and F4, so it doesn't make sense to me that it would be that.
beldaran1224
It doesn't sound like any of those are the problem, but I just wanted to bring up a couple often-overlooked potentials. Keep in mind though, that just because your computer performs well in other modded games doesn't mean it will for Oblivion. Oblivion has some well known performance issues that later Bethesda games don't, including the fact that it doesn't utilize multiple cores well. But a cursory glance at your processor specs looks like it should be fine - you probably know more about your processor than I do. The only thing I can suggest now is to look at your mods. Perhaps one of them is very poorly optimized. I would take note of when the drops happen, and try disabling mods temporarily to see if one of them is the culprit. You may also try digging around in your Oblivion.ini and OSR settings to see if tweaking something there might help. I'd be careful about those last two, though. CHASE6
Checking mods is a good idea, thanks for suggesting it, I'll give that a shot. To illustrate, the processor is quad and 3.4GHz. Of note, the problem mostly occurs with exterior cells. Interiors usually get at or close to 60, dipping down to 45 or fifty, at times.
CHASE6
SOLVED!!! I disabled all mods and started a new game. It was sitting at 32 fps. Here's where it gets odd...I decided to try disabling the ENB fps limiter (set at 60). As soon as I did that, it shot right up to 60! I re-enabled the mods and launched my existing game and recreated the action, with the same result. I tested it out in Imperial City, the exterior and in Vilverin. When moving the rate would drop from mid 50s to mid 40s in IC and the exterior, but within Vilverin it was solid 60. I recall reading about what you mentioned regarding Oblivion not playing well with multi-cores. I have to guess this is the reason why I don't get 60 all the time. Its really odd though that ENB's limiter, set at 60, was capping it at 32. I wonder if it's an ENB thing or an Oblivion thing. Regardless, I'm very happy the result I have seen. Thanks for your help troubleshooting this!
beldaran1224
Glad you figured it out! I'm not familiar with ENB for Oblivion, but I have noticed that FPS managers can have some odd effects at times. Some of them may keep them lower than you expect in order to keep the FPS steady or to prevent stuttering.
