BaronObvious
So I've been wondering about a couple mod ideas lately. I'm not sure they're actually possible though, but not having any knowledge of mod making myself, I can't say for sure. But if they ARE possible, I'd love to see them made, for purposes of fun (if not exactly balance). The first is a shared stash. Basically, it's a chest that retains its contents between save files. Let's say the Nord warrior Jorded loots a really nice pair sneaking boots. But he's not a stealthy character at all, and doesn't really want or it. So you take the boots and put them in the Stash. Then, you load up the save file for your Khajiit thief, Bar'gun, and loot those boots from the Stash. Or perhaps Jorded could use a boost to his gear, so he sends some items into the Stash to be taken, enchanted with Fortify Smithing, and returned by the Argonian mage Raptor Jesus. The reason I wonder if it's even possible is because of how it has to remember the contents between save files. Perhaps some kind of other file that keeps track, and the plugin refers to it to check or update its contents. But I've got a hunch that'd be a lot harder than it may sound. The other idea is Shadowmeld. I've been a fan of Night Elf race mods in Oblivion (what can I say? I like tall women), and when someone inevitably makes one for Skyrim, I'd like to see a different take on their racial Shadowmeld ability than just a once-daily invisibility spell. I want to see Shadowmeld behave like it did in Warcraft 3. Essentially, it's a passive ability that turns you invisible only under certain conditions. That being, you MUST be standing still, and you MUST be in the dark. If you move, attack, or light shines on you, you become visible. It's NOT like the Shadowcloak of Nocturnal greater power, which turns you invisible when sneaking, regardless if you're moving, or standing in the light, and is a once-daily cast. Now, either of these two ideas could be kinda cheaty or unbalanced, but that aside I think they'd be a lot of fun. I just don't know if they'd be possible to make, CK or no. Any thoughts? jmalkavian
"Torchlight" had a shared stash also Diablo "Hellfire" had the corner of the world...in both instances only one item could be left for the next character...as for it being a cheat...more than likely...but probably "fun". As for implementing such a thing...lotsa luck...the save system as it stands needs some "fixing"...maybe some talented modder will have a dig at fixing it and if possible ...add a shared stash...like it would be totally up to the player as to whether to use it or not. BaronObvious
Yeah, the rampant requests (at least, from what I read) from Diablo 2 fans to add a shared stash was kinda what inspired the idea for me as a Skyrim mod. Also, Diablo 3 is supposed to have one.I figured there'd be a lot of stuff getting in the way of making it work, I just don't know what all it'd be aside from however the save system is written. I think the Shadowmeld thing would probably be a lot easier than the shared stash.
iamthefritch
if im not mistaken it would be very easy just have the chest link to even just a text file with the item code for every item in the chest in it and then just give the apperance that the item is in there in the menus and then when you try to pull an item out of the chest it will just do the whole player.additem XXX console code am i wrong or is it really that easy? BaronObvious
That's basically what I'd guessed, but I really don't know. I need to learn this stuff...
iamthefritch
yah im planning on spending a lot of time learning the scripting language when i find some info on it
BaronObvious
I want to learn this stuff but I really have no clue where to begin. I watched some of Bethesda's CK tutorial videos but even then I'm still confused. Or if someone would be super kind and take a whack at these themselves, I'd be fine with that too. iamthefritch
yah i like the programming language and im not having a hard time learning that cuz ive had experience with scripting languages but im having a hard time figuring out how the CK fits it all together
PsykozQT
Just night elves in general would be damn awesome!
BaronObvious
Yes it would, but I'd love to see a more creative take on their shadowmeld ability, which is half the reason I made this thread. I want to know if the specifics of it are possible, being a constant-effect racial ability that turns you invisible as long as you're not moving, and covered in the dark (but once you move, or attack, or light shines on you, you become visible again until the next time you're motionless in the dark). And I really have no idea where to begin with papyrus. I have very little scripting experience, just a barely-passing knowledge of HTML. I'm sure I can figure out well enough how to create a dungeon or house, given enough time, but if something requires scripting, I'm clueless.
