Modded Skyrim crashing when saving

Hey all,

So the problem that I am having is that after installing a bunch of mods (I'll list them in a second) the game seemed to crash when transitioning into a new area (somwhere that required a load).

The crash itself gives me no error report it just boots me out of game and streight back to desktop. The game does not seem to hang up and only takes a split second to boot me to desktop and close.

It wouldn't do it all the time just sometimes but only ever when transitioning, never out in the game world just running around.

There seemed to be no other pattern with the crashes, its not particular areas that cause it, time in game seemed not to matter, hardware usage was different each time (sometimes maxed sometimes around 50%).

I figured it was just a by product of adding a bunch of new stuff and set on just quick saving before transitioning, however, after a couple of quick saves the crash occured when quick saving.

This leads me to believe that it is not the actual transitioning but something to do with saving that is causing the issue.

I have managed to replicate the crash when doing a manual save also. So is anyone else having this issue with any of the mods I'm using (see below)?

Its also worth noting that I had played vanilla skyrim for ~14 hours with no crashes before I started a new play through with mods.

As you can imagine it is really frustrating not knowing when a save is going to crash your game!

I'm using the most up to date Steam version of Skyrim and the matching SKSE loader. All these mods are up to date (as of time of posting) and were installed with NMM where possible and manually according to the included read me files where this was not.

I installed all the mods one by one and tested them out before moving on to the next one though clearly not enough!

So, as for what mods I'm using, they are;

Thanks for reading this far! Any help that anyone could give me would be hugely appreciated or even just if someone can point to a particular mod that is known to cause this, though I'm not seeing anything in the read me/faqs.

Cheers

UPDATE: Disabled all mods and added them back in one at a time. Tested them for much longer than I had previously to try and replicate the problem. Eventually found the problem seems to be caused by Skyrim HD - 2K Teaxtures by NebuLa [ http://skyrim.nexusm...file.php?id=607 ], however it seems to run just fine on its own, I plan to run a test next week to see what mods it is clashing with to create this and will update here incase anyone else comes across the issue or knows a fix.

i would say that you are running out of video memory. but looking at that you have 2gb of it thats unlikely.

In my case, i had to disable quality map. i suggest you leave HD on, map off.

if that doesnt help. try map off, hd (lite version) on.

SLI gives him an effective 1GB of memory as the vast majority of information is loaded to both cards simultaneously.

I personally recommend the Lite version of HD 2K textures most of the time anyways as the game uses a complex algorithm to determine which mip map size of a texture to display and unless your running multi-monitor or 2560x1600 it's almost always going to chose the 1K mip map and upscale it anyways. Having the 2K version of the texture eats about 3.5x more RAM than the 1K version with little to no noticeable difference in-game.

Are you on a 32bit or 64bit OS? I'd hope you're on a 64bit OS with your system specs, but if you're on a 32bit OS I may be able to dig up a potentially helpful post with directions on how to tell Windows to allocate less memory for itself, leaving more of what a 32bit OS can utilize available for programs.

Thanks for your responses folks.

Like I said the actual % usage of my video cards seemed to make no difference (I'm using MSI Afterburner to monitor it) and sometimes it was crashing with both cards using about 35% somtimes they were sitting at 90% and not crashing. Yeah I am using 64 bit, I didn't state that in the OP because I thought it was implied by the 16GB of ram :P

Anyways I gave up on getting them to work. After the Bethesda Texture Pack game out I just installed that and cranked all my settings to max and it looks as good to me.
