Stealing in Oblivion

In my opinion, combined with 100% chameleon, you could practically run through theives guild quests and never be caught, of course, in order to make up for this, a lot of theives guild quests were incredibly long. And that made them slightly more challenging. Even so I found it too easy, luckily there are mods out there to make chameleon more balanced. Or stealth more realistic, ect.

Nah stealing is pretty good in oblivion IF you don't use chameleon.

I love commiting a crime then slaying the guards who try to arrest me then trying to get the gold to get the bounty off my head. That tatic is more or less for an evil character though obviously for the infamy.

I do agree with fishtank though that it is too easy but the mods out there make it much more enjoyable.

What do all of you guys out there think about stealing in TES4?

Too easy?

Too hard?

Not enough to steal?

No point in stealing?

Anything else?

Anything else, just say.

Cool.

To borrow from D&D, unless you're deadset on RPing a character of lawful alignments, you will steal. It's much too easy to walk into some closed off corner and stick something in your pockets. I never had to use the chameleon spell once. I have no complaints with this because it's quite realistic. There are no cameras in Cyrodil; no security alarms will sound as you leave. Being semi-invisible just gives you an unfair extra advantage.

Of course one could argue that stealing might sabotage your overall experience since you take the easy road to power. Again, I have no problem with this. It's a freeform game, ultimately meaning you play how you wanna play and srew what everyone else thinks you should do.

I remember reading something about modding window entrances to houses in Oblivion. Cheers to the modders. And jeers to the developers for not implementing this feature from the start. Why must a seasoned thief come through the front door all the time?

Sneak in vanilla Oblivion is not bad per se, only you have to avoid ruining it by using Chameleon. I use Invisibility just to escape if discovered.

Even the clutter inside the houses is very well placed, and houses seem lifelike. What I didn't like is:

- There is no big difference among different houses. I would expect the richest manors to hide something more valuable, while, apart from the occasional jewelry box, it is rare to find expensive material.

- Silverware is too undervalued. Compare the price/weight ratio among urns, plates, etc. and a silver longsword, and you'll see what I mean.

- Expensive clothes should be that, expensive. They are not.

Well if you play dungeons and dragons THE RIGHT way like i did on pen and paper, Everything was by a chance of a Die roll or your DM's Choice.....

The stuff to steal in oblivion in my sucks. I only like using my Bad dudes to rob and kill and pillage, And if you rob every NPC you can get alot of keys to many different houses throughout Cyrodill. There are mods like thieves arsenal ( i do belive thats the one ) that add purposful thief quests. There are also Mods that Test yer wits and you have to steal good items. So i stick by my statement. VANILLA stealing is aight. Modded stealing is Fun.

if you cant love it mod it.
