Removing paint makes helmet dissapear.

Recommended Posts

I figured out how to get camouflage paint onto the Marine Armor Helmet. Putting the paint on works great. However, when I take the paint off, the helmet becomes invisible.

I have effed with this for a while. I made a MWSP form to see if I could force the original textures back on. No joy. I have tried moving the vanilla .DDS/BGSM files to my path. Still no joy.

After four hours and a pot of coffee, I have come to the conclusion that I am doing something horribly wrong and can no longer see the forest.

Any help out there?

I'm far from an expert with Fallout 4, but you could try making a swap containing the original texture and swapping it back when you remove the other material.

Alternatively, you could apply your material through a mod, like is done with power armor. Of course this requires more work as you have to apply the mod through a workbench such as the armor workbench.

I really need to do a better job explaining my dilemma.

I apply the paint job to the helmet at the work station with a Constructable Object and an Object Mod (OMOD), which is what you propose in your second paragraph. I should have said that originally.

When I said I "made a MWSP form to see if I could force the original textures back on", I was doing what you propose in your first paragraph. But the mighty Casey struck out again.

Have you modified or created instance naming rules for the helmet? I suspect this may be what you are missing. Download and take a look at the Kerrigan Bodysuit (if you haven't already). Be sure to install it with the color changer option. Between the Kerrigan.esp and especially the KerriganColorChange.esp, everything is provided to allow you to get your mod working. There are also tutorials for color change mods, but I don't have any references to any from my tablet (which I'm on at the moment).
