Lycanthropy activated by spell rather than time

First off, i am a realist. I have little to no hope that this will get grabbed up by some skilled modder and put into production. I don't even believe it will get more than a glance over by anyone, so don't worry about telling me how much work it requires, or its chances of failure. I already know its more work than i can muster, and a high chance of failure.

 

The idea of the mod would be simple. Take everything that lichdom/lycanthropy has done, and change a couple things in its practice.

 

1: Instead of being restricted to nightfall, i think that a werewolf should have some form of control over when he/she changes. By having this change flagged as spell or power it would allow the player to be a werewolf that has harnessed the raw rage of his ailment to his own benefit.

 

Having this ability tied to a time frame would be neat as well. After X days as a werewolf you gain the spell to change, and cease changing every night. The hunger still remains each time you change, but you gain the ability to use the powers of the werewolf to your advantage without a time restriction. With all the varieties of vampire in the TES world, a more developed and in control werewolf is not to far to reach for.

 

Being a werewolf as it is in the M.O.E. is fun, don't get me wrong, but i personally find that while the rampaging beasts are fun, their story arcs are far to based around hiding their ailment rather than taking advantage of it. It is hard to really use the power to my advantage for assassinations, escapes, and scare tactics when i have to "wait" for a certain time to activate the power, then be stuck with it in this kill everything rage. Its hard to escape unnoticed after a kill when your large and covered in bloody fur. It is also annoying to have to wait until dawn to turn in whatever quest caused the killing in the first place.

 

Now dungeon crawling is a dream come true for the savage werewolves, just move in and rip and tear! Sleep until dawn then scavenge whatever your kill fest left behind.

 

This could also be flagged to a greater power usable once per day with a duration of about 8 ingame hours. Either full control or a once per day duration would help to simulate playing a lycanthrope that is in control, instead of just losing control night after night.

 

2: The ability to chose fur color, and to add extra fur onto the werewolf meshes as is done in the lost paladins of the divine mod with the werewolf guardians. It looks to be the same models, only the extra ragidy fur is included in the paladins mod. Lost Paladins of the Divine Mod There is a screen shot of a werewolf in the appropriate section. I actually changed the werewolves so they respawn in my game so i could see them when i want, being that they are so nicely detailed.

 

Now my oblivion modding skill is nearly 0, but i have worked on mods for other games so i can estimate the size of a commitment this would take. Its not feasible to expect anything, but after poking around a bit and not finding so much as a suggestion to have a spell based lycan transformation similar to lichdom/lycanthropy i figured i would throw the idea to the suggestion forum in case someone is actually looking for their next big project.

 

I think thats about it.
