So there I was, sitting at my computer, all hyped up about some new mods when suddenly...

*suspense*

...I noticed that they were in RAR file format. All I need to know is how to change it to a file that I can shtick into my data folder. Help will be very much appreciated!

((Oblivion mods, just in case that wasnt apparent))

A .rar is just another type of compressed file, like a .zip which you are likely more familiar with. You need to get a program that is able to uncompress the files so you can use the mod it contains.

Try this: http://winrar.downloadfree12.net/

You can use it free for about a month, after which the program will loose some of its functions unless you pay a fee. However, after the trial is over, it will still uncompress .rar files if you do it manually.

Edit: Woogie beat me to it.

I'll add though that 7zip is free forever and will do the job as well. If you're thinking of modding it's worth a look.

You should use IZArc. It can be formated to work with ANY file type, and doesn't tend to have "argument" errors like 7Zip.

P.S. I will post a link to this tomorrow. I am currently typing this from my iPod Touch. :P

Edit: You can Download IZArc here.

I have written a set of tutorials for people who have never used mods before. It starts with how to download a file, where to put it, what to do with Rar, 7z and other unknown files, how to install the mod into oblivion and some troubleshooting. I have provided a sample mod to download from Tesnexus.

The tutorial is available here: http://thewormhole.nfshost.com/forum/index...opic,296.0.html Click on the highlighted text and you will be taken to the site. You will have to register, but it is free. (Registration is only to keep the barbarians out)

Every geek has their own favorite unzipping program. Most of them work about the same, but there are differences. I prefer 7-zip, I provide a download link - Its free and available on Tesnexus - and I use it for examples in my tutorial.

Please post feedback on any problems. either here, by PM or on the Wormhole site.
