Criboo
Hey guys, So a while back I modded the skyrimprefs and .ini (there were two although I can't remember which ones) to increase the draw distance of nearby things like rocks and paths etc, which looks great... however, to do so, I had to download a mod, which I believe I got from here, although I can't find it anymore.. Other mods I've been using is war in Skyrim II (disabled currently) and a nighttime sky texture enhancer. Recently I fast travelled to the Western Watch tower, looked around and noticed something... my spec fade is shocking... the mountains in the distance appear as smoothed off, pointy topped and I can't even see dragonsreach until I get really close to Whiterun. Also, my game crashes significantly more often than before, and when I turn the game on a dead dragon randomly appears infront of me. All my settings are as high as they go, including AF and AA, and I've been told if I undo the .ini tweaks (which I don't even know how to do) I'll not be able to load up my save, which worries me a bit, given how much time I put into the character, so if anybody knows what's wrong or how to fix it, could you please let me know. Thank you very much Chris Edited February 7, 2012 by Criboo
elvinkun
To kill ini changes, simply delete both inis in your documents, run the game and it will generate new clean ones. You will have to set the graphics again in the launcher.I recommend to not tweak anything in the inis, unless you are sure how the engine works OR use a guides, plenty of them out there, I especially like the nVidia one, since it very crearly shows what will happen and what's the difference copared to default, also lists all possible complications it might cause. Tho ini tweaks could alter anything visual, or cause crashes, it can't really affect dragons, so... that might be just random bug or other mod. And nope, cleaning ini or tweaking the hell out of them won't affect your saves.
Criboo
Ahh, ok thanks, I think I used the nVidia one for some things (control panel stuff) and I used their guide to undo my grid lock tweaks, the dragons have only been appearing for the past few days, so just going to re-install Skyrim because idk what's causing the bug and get the HD texture pack :P Thanks anyway
rabidNode
the only ini file that will not allow you to load a save game that does not have it isuGridsToLoadthis setting does indeed all for greater draw distance.here on this page will offer a method to revert the setting ugridstoload back to its default 5 then once that is done it is possible to revert all the settings to their default value by simply removing the 2 ini files and allowing skyrim to recreate themthen you can start fresh with tweaks I would suggest not allowing another program to later your ini files unless you know specifically what the settings are doing. also as I have done I moved around my ini text so it is better organized with shadows and textures and such all together so I can more easily see what they are and change them. hope that helps
