Nvidia Black Screen Mod

Hi, I have been having a problem with black screens.

 

My video cards are 2 8800GTS's in SLI.

 

I downloaded the nvidia black screen fix, and all it did was make the black screens blue, and happen much more often. I first noticed the black screens after I installed QTP3, but had only had 1 hour of play time before that, so I'm not sure it it's causing them.

 

The black screens seem to happen in circular rooms (guard towers, etc.) and happen much more often if I'm in sneak mode. The last quest of the thieves guild wasn't fun at all having to sneak through the imperial palace seeing nothing but black with a few flashes of normalcy.

 

Is there a better patch out there? and I'm assuming it's a video card problem?

Not video card, despite the fact that this is common on nVidia cards, but rather a modded mesh not behaving itself. Some of the blades from Apachii's Goddes store can cause this. Also, Are you using Operation Optimization? If so, try disabling it. If not, try it to see what happens.

 

Also try dropping some of your weapons/armor that are equipped and see if one of them are causing the problem.

This is different than the black screen fix from Quarn, because it tackles a different black screen bug.

 

What's addressed here is the black screen you get ONLY while sneaking in first person, in interiors with npcs present.

 

What the mod does is turn off Interior Shadows while your character is sneaking in first person view (with no weapon or shield or torch in use), so the black screen is no more.

Interior Shadows are reset to the value you've chosen in the game settings in all other situations, so you won't lose shadows when the black screen is not an issue.

 

Remember to set the shadows to your chosen value in the game settings before activating this mod.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

This mod needs OBSE v.10 or higher to work. There is absolutely no sane reason for a player of modded Oblivion not to use OBSE.

I get this problem too but I'm never sneaking when it happens. It just... happens. Turning off interior shadows stops it completely, so I just turn off interior shadows.

Yeah, I get the bug on my 8800 GT whether I'm in first or third-person, sneaking or not. It doesn't matter - what does matter is the camera's position. I can look at one spot in particular rooms and it always happens, no matter what I'm doing. It's just a shadow bug, nothing that really needs a mod.

 

Can't remember where I saw the information on it, but it basically said it's interior shadows doing it and that's all there was to it. And sure enough, with int shadows off, they're gone. Even if I'm looking dead at one and the screen is currently black, as soon as shadows are off, poof.

I had this problem when using the mod you mentioned, but it was caused by conflict with another mod that tried to remove the refraction from being under a chameleon effect. I deactivated the latter mod, and no more black screen...ever.
