NMM 'purge unmanaged files' causes in-game issues

Fallout 4 will still boot up and run, and at first glance everything works fine (can go do quests and stuff)...

But when I enter workshop/settlement mode, then there are issues, one very BIG issue in fact - my entire 'furniture' sub-category is GONE, just not even there any more! And some furniture items I had already placed have also vanished (only some though, not all, which is even weirder - those that remain come from both Vanilla and Mod sources too, so that doesn't seem to be a factor...)

Please help! I'm a 'settlement building addict', so I *need* this to work!

UPDATE:

I can now confirm that the only furniture items that had vanish were those added by one specific mod.

Furthermore - On a hunch, I started a new game to see if it was only that character/save that was affected. For better or worse, it was. A new character in Sanctuary had full access to the workshop as normal.

However, if anyone has any ideas for how to 'fix' the problem with the old character, that would still be greatly appreciated (she was lv.37 after all).

My standard copy/paste response for this issue:

Odds are good you improperly uninstalled a mod that uses scripts to add to the workshop menus. If you uninstall any mod which adds items to the workshop menu, first read their description for correct uninstall methods.

To fix it try the Universal Menu Fixer located on the files tab of this tutorial.
Note the following as well.
According to Steve40: "when uninstalling mods that use script-added menus, it is mandatory that you quit the game to the Windows desktop after deactivating the mod, before loading another save game. If you deactivated the mod using the vanilla MODS menu and immediately loaded up a save game without first quitting to the desktop and restarting FO4, the menu might be missing even if you used the proper uninstall chem/holoatape. The same rule applies when using missing menu fixer tools."

  • 1 month later...

The only real problem I've had with that feature is it purges the official high-res DLC for Fallout 4. 55 GB re-download not a big deal for me since I'm on Google Fiber but if I was using a metered connection haha holy crap I'd probably lose it.
