I was voted "other" since there is no jazz option there, and I'm a jazz lover, although I really like Pink Floyd and Dire Straits along with others like Hendrix, Eric Clapton etc.

Well I like many genres but my favourite is Club Music....from Elektro, Drum'n Bass, Chillout to Electronica, Techno and other genres related to clubs :P.

My favourite artists are: Paul van Dyk, The Chemical Brothers, Fedde le Grand, Benny Benassi and the list continues :whistling:

Cheers

Anytime I hear anyone espousing why "Black" Metal or "Death" Metal is their favorite music, all I can think of is Strongbad's advice for aspiring musicians ( http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail141.html ).

But that's beside the point.

Me, I cut my teeth on late-60's/early-70's pop and rock, on the AM radio in my parents' car and my uncles' record collections. Beatles, Yardbirds, Traffic, Jefferson Airplane, FZ & The Mothers, as well as what passed for pop in those days. My interests branched into singer/songwriters for a while (Harry Chapin, John Sebastian, Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez) and got heavier during my teens & early 20's (King Crimson, Rush, Yes, and some harder punk stuff, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Dead Milkmen, Circle Jerks, etc)

Nowadays, I'll listen to just-about anything as long as it's not a cover of someone else's hit, has a live drummer (no electronic beats for me, thank you), and has some sort of melody (the Killers' Mr. Brightside and Pussycat Dolls' When I Grow Up are largely on the same note, and about as interesting as listening to morse-code, for me).

Currently in my disc-player:

Pete Yorn - MusicForTheMorningAfter

Richard Thompson - Action Packed: Best of the Capitol Years

King Crimson - The 21st Century Guide to King Crimson

Leo Kottke - Anthology

Soundgarden - SuperUnknown

Curt Cobain, Chris Cornell, and Layne Staley sound like angels, to me, when I hear them sing, no matter what the lyrics.

I love the chillout and lots of jazz nowadays, but my first love will always be the classic rock sounds that have already been mentioned here, OLD-School Zappa from the early 70s is better, listen to Sofa No.s 1 & 2.. and I prefer Concrete Blonde to Black Flag.

Lowell George takes my breath away, Jimi Hendrix was my first true love, and even now I melt when I play Robert Plant and Allison Kraus. I don't like popular country but Johnny Cash rocked my socks even when I was a tot. My mother had a collection of albums which included all the beatles, patsy cline, tchaikovsky... I get my great love of music honest. My uncles played bluegrass, and it may be an acquired taste but it is wonderful. I still listen to traffic and trower every day, and I was jamming CCR's green river LOUD just an hour ago. I had a fabulous weekend that reminded me of why I love that song.

And I can truly say that one of the great blessings of my life is living in a time when beautiful music is easily accessible to the masses.

I'll agree, Johnette Napolitano's got a great voice, and I've had their first album (self-titled) stolen from me twice... which says something about the quality of their music.

I like rock mainly opera metal but I'm really into Death Metal especially anything made in Sweden *cough* Dark Tranquility *cough*. I'm more of a fan of old school Metal back when the song where about telling a story not about screaming into the mic for effect. My 2 favorite bands are Kamelot and Dark Tranquility but I'll listen to anythng with a guitar, drums and bass at least once. I dabble in all genres of music a bit but I absolutly HATE country with an unstoppable passion. It's nothing to do with the music itself but based on my extreme dislike for a family member who listens purely to country and listening to it reminds me of them. No matter what I can't hate J Cash though, he's far to great of a musician to dislike.

I have no preferences when it comes to music unless its a jingle ad. But right now as this very moment Im listening to "Ozar Midrashim" by Information Society simply because its used in the Legacy of Kain Series.
