NewVegasPasserby
Bought game few days ago, can't launch game on 1920x1080 at all, but in windowed borderless mode it works fine, only in 1280x720, at least with all effects turned off in launcher's options. My config - i5 4200H, 8 Gb RAM, GTX850m - I think that's the reason, right? Also I played a little F4 year ago on same notebook, don't remember in whcih resolution, all was laggy in Sanctuary but hadno problem with launch. Also in construction\workshop mode I have flashes from green or red pixels, annoying. So my question is - how to launch game at 1920x1080 and have in general better graphics and perfomance. PS Sorry for title, I f***d up. Edited April 20, 2017 by NewVegasPasserby
NewVegasPasserby
OK folk, can you at least tell me which subforum is a right place for "mod suggestion" topics?
AGreatWeight
Sounds like your on-board gpu is underpowered to play Fallout 4 at 1080p (regardless of having low settings selected), unfortunately this means that you can't play at that resolution. Bear in mind that you only have 2gb of vram so being able to play at 720p with lowest settings might be the best you can hope for.If you use ENB (not an ENB preset) you might be able to utilize some of your ram to help improve performance, but I've no idea if it'll help at all. Watch this vid/guide for more info. The flashes you describe sound a lot like a vram issue, your gpu is struggling to manage and that's why your seeing these visual errors. Could also be caused by overheating (which wouldn't be surprising all things considered)Might be time to upgrade? edit: mod suggestions go in 'mod requests' forum. NewVegasPasserby
Thanks for answer man!By "mod suggestion" I meant "guys pls help me to choose a mod I'm such a noob". I discovered that I can't run game in any resolution available in launcher if it isn't in windowed mode, or maybe windowed borderless if it affects anything, I mean I can't even launched it in resolution I run in windowed borderless - 1280x720.I know about ENB (even know this guy personally) but for now not going to use it because as I understand, it trade perfomance for quality. But maybe I misunderstood something. For now I need a few tips and advices about mods that are designed to improve performance. Might be time to upgrade? No way it will happen, this notebook cost a lot 3-4 years ago, like 1500$ lol, except in case if I going to die fromstarvation. The flashes you describe sound a lot like a vram issue, your gpu is struggling to manage and that's why your seeing these visual errors. Could also be caused by overheating (which wouldn't be surprising all things considered) No, flashes have same color as item/object's outline I'm interacting with through workshop menu.If it red - flashes are red, but not always, and only when I'm interacting with it.Same for yellow and green. Also notebook temperature I would describe as cool, there is no sound of crazy spinning fan too. Maybe the case in drivers? My current for Nvidia is defaul one, because when I tried to update them, after some time I discovered I have no drivers at all lol, so I revert to default, and since then I'm little scary about changing drivers. ) Edited April 20, 2017 by NewVegasPasserby
AGreatWeight
Ok, in that case it might be caused by any workshop mods you're using. With your drivers, you should update them to the latest ones for your device.
NewVegasPasserby
Well, for now I have clean game, not installed any mods, just tried to run game, and got to Sanctuary where I got lags before (in house). Byw I even don't know how to disable updates in steam, which might broke any mods I'll install. In general if all my effors for modding fall short, Im ready to play as is, I can post picture of grafixxx I have lol.But it would be better to mod game of course.Yeah, I'll try to update drivers. NewVegasPasserby
Updated drivers, now I'm able to play at 1920x1080 at minimals, looks like I have 40-50 fps. Still need advice on mods - TOP, OVT, Vivid Fallout or something different I even don't know about?Btw something confusing me - in Vivid Fallout textures are not compressed in ba2 format, doesn't it cause lags? Also flashes completely gone. Edited April 21, 2017 by NewVegasPasserby
NewVegasPasserby
So, do you know something about Horizon right?I mean how it is played.
AGreatWeight
Haven't used Horizon, from what I can remember it's an overhaul that attempts to rebalance various game systems/mechanics; though I think it's a w.i.p. so future updates will add new features and tweak various aspects of it.The 'Vivid Fallout' series by Hein84 are great, and I'd definitely recommend them to you. The author has included a number of different versions (I'd suggest using the 2k ones as they are better optimized than the vanilla ones, but if that puts too much strain on your system you can always go for the 1k versions)Bear in mind you've only got 2gb on your gpu so best to be careful when adding any mod that does negatively affect performance. The files not being in ba2 may cause lag, but only if the game can't read the files fast enough, so that tends to be more of a memory or hdd/ssd issue, rather than anything to do with the gpu. If you are playing on hdd, make sure your files aren't fragmented. As an aside, certain (background) apps running at the same time as you're playing the game have been known to cause issues. Anti-virus/malware software, Steam overlay and some Nvidia stuff have been known to hog system resources and cause CTD's.Other than that, the best advice I can give is simply proceed with caution. Play the vanilla game up to the point when you leave Vault 111 for the first time and make a save after exiting (or when you first arrive at Sanctuary) Use that save as your test point when trying out a new mod. Always test mods out one at a time to reduce your chances of conflicts etc. Use LOOT to help with your load order.
