Shivering Isles destroyed my game?

Ever since I installed Shivering Isles (and even when I turn Shivering Isles and ALL mods off) my landscape has appeared as a purple mini-map of the island that the Imperial City is on. I can't fix it, I've tried installing patches that are supposed to fix Isles but they don't work. I don't know what to do, please help? This is ruining my game. Can someone at the very least tell me if its possible to uninstall Isles and how?

:thanks:

This has been an ongoing problem. You probably loaded the patches in the wrong order - It's not clear on the beth site.

first, if you have one of the beta SI patches - you must reinstall. no way around that.

Some people have had some luck by going into the options menu and changing the texture size to large.

If you do have to reinstall, you can save your data file and saved games .

To save your data files - go to C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\data - rename the \data to somthing like oldata. This will preserve your entire data file as is.

To save your save games - go top C:\documents and settings\your user name\my documents\my games\oblivion - rename the oblivion here to something like old oblivion.

Now, using the original disk, uninstall Oblivion. then restart your computer. - this cleans out any buffers.

I believe the purple ground is caused by the patches being installed in the wrong order.

Reinstall the game using the original Oblivion disk. BEFORE making any changes to the game - start the game and make a save - this initializes some things that need to be initialized. Now go to the Bethesda site and download and install only The latest Oblivion patch. IMPORTANT: there are 2 English language patches UK & US. Be sure to use the one that matches your Oblivion Disk.

Again start the game and make a save.

Now install SI - again start the game and make a save. then download and install only the latest SI patch (There is only one English SI patch)

Now you should have a up to date version without your saves or mods. Again - do a back up just like before, but this time use a different name such as 4-17-Data and 4-17-Oblivion.

Now you can rename the oldata back to data to put all of your mods back and rename the oldoblivion back to oblivion to restore your saves. You have the 4-17 versions as a backup if there is a problem.

Lots of work, but it leads to a clean install - good luck.

Like it says, You need the original disk to uninstall. The uninstall program is on the CD and not on your computer.

It may be looking in the wrong place - instead of using the oblivion launcher on your computer, open and close the disk drawer with the Oblivion disk in it. The autostart should bring up the launcher on the disk. then try selecting uninstall.

If the autostart doesn't work, click on the 'My Computer' icon - usually in the upper left on your desktop. You should get a list of all of your drives Hard drives, CD drives, floppy, usb and any others installed. Click on the CD drive that has the oblivion disk in it. That should start the launcher on the disk.
