ripple
Anyone still having this problem? My CK and Skyrim both worked perfectly yesterday. Today both crash immediately when I try to start up: "Creation kit has stopped working." The only difference between today and yesterday is that both my video card and my backup power supply blew out together. Got new power supply and new, better video card, but now same result, crash on startup. Verifying files no help. Now trying a reinstall of each. After you installed the new GPU, did you delete the game ini files and the let launcher generate new ones on game start? The only difference between today and yesterday is that both my video card and my backup power supply blew out together. Got new power supply and new, better video card, but now same result, crash on startup. Verifying files no help. Now trying a reinstall of each.Hello again Anduniel and everyone else. Sorry to hear about your computer problems. I was indeed having this problem too exactly like everyone else. As I decided to try my hand at some house modding for the wife. Aren't I sweet? I had the same symptoms as others too a tee! I was about to give up when I decided to do a reinstall of CK into the Skyrim dir. (I had been running it from it's own dir/folder) it got further but still crashed. I reinstalled the creation kit (from the torrents, not steam) I let it overwrite whatever it wanted to Steamapi.dll included and merge it's folders in Skyrim's folder. Deleted the Skyrimprefs.ini and Skyrim.ini and also reinstalled my video drivers (AMD) which reinstalled a bunch of stuff like Directx 9.0c, Visual C++ 2008 redistributable and some other stuff. I also let it do it's video redetect in the Skyrim Launcher and ran the game. After that I ran the Creation Kit and Viola! Creation Kit works. So between using a few good logical suggestions in these forums and combining them and hammering at the problem for a frustrating amount of time. Something I did made it work again of all these things. Coming from a Computer Technician's and Windows Expert point of view, this is usually the case. Windows is a self corrupting, unreliable (although better than it was 20 years ago) crappy OS. Bottom line. If Windows is fine, then it is usually something else that also belongs to Microsoft, that is essential to functionality of some software like Microsoft Visual C++, Microsoft Direct X 9, Microsoft .NET 4, and others. Notice a trend here? Microsoft! They are usually the problem! We used to have a joke about their programmers at IBM. Make sure ALL updates for Windows are installed, EVEN THE OPTIONAL ONES! Reinstall Windows elements/dependencies like Directx 9, Visual C++ redistributables and video drivers (which sometimes do these others for you, like AMD) sound drivers and whatever else comes to mind. Seriously, I know what I am talking about, it usually always works. If there is one thing I have learned in 20 years of Computer Tech work, shots in the dark do work sometimes. Reinstall stuff cause Windows is INFAMOUS for corruption and you should be ok. Also shut off over zealous virus scanners, spyware scanners and firewalls as they are infamous for stopping actions they deem threatening but may not be (false positives) as one user suggested and is a very sound suggestion. Personally I think the problem is related to either corrupt video drivers, or other corrupt Windows elements like directx etc. They too are infamous for causing problems, not just Windows itself. Halfside
Well I've had the same problem like crashing right after the start and I've tried everything from .ini file to CK reinstalation but without any success. At the end I've simply exited the steam that was running at the background and problem was solved. :DSo if you have a same problem just exit (turn off) Steam. My problem was fixed. Hope you can do it as simply as I.Sorry for my terrible english I just wanted you to know about this. :D Edited February 2, 2016 by Halfside
1NV1N518L3
[solution] Hey all,I found a solution to the problem where the Creation Kit comes up with the error message "Creation Kit has stopped Working - Checking for a solution" which then leads onto another error message "Creation Kit has stopped working - Close Program" forcing you to close the program. Now, for me this occurred when the CK reached the point of "initializing windows". What I did to fix this was make sure that I had steam fully closed down before opening the CK. I don't know if this fix is exclusive to Non-Steam installed versions of Skyrim but this is just what worked for me and I thought I'd share it because I too was looking for a solution to this problem. Just to clarify as well, I had linked my Non-Steam skyrim TO steam so I assume it was operating off the same principals as a Steam version. Also, running as Admin might help. Anyway guys! Hoped this helped! PS: I am 100% aware of how completely garbage this name is ROFL, I can't remember exactly when I made this account but I think I was 11 or 12... or high. NexusComa
Just delete it and re-download ... I do a lot of editing and found working with the creation kit and a heavily modded Skyrim isn't the best ideal. When I say "heavily modded" I'm referring to the .ini files. I had a small program I wrote to simply swap back the .ini files. Now my .ini filesare custom made for my editor but that took me a few years to get right. A few thoughts that may help ... Set admin permission on the editor.Set compatible with win XP.Shorten up the path to the editor. If you are downloading a fresh editor and it's still not working ... it's not the editorJust re-downloaded it last week and it working fine. lancelot40
I had the same problem many of you had. I would start Creation Kit and it would lock up when loading facegen stuff. Mine was fixed with Markmid's suggestion of replacing the steam_api.dll file. Markmid gives a link on this forum to a place to downoad one. I had my own so I don't know if that one works, but I assume it works.
