Skyrim Workshop Complaints

I was excited as anyone to hear about Skyrim mods being integrated into Steam, but after getting some through the Workshop yesterday, I have to say I am very disappointed. There are some major problems and design flaws in the whole process.

One of the major problems I see is that you don't get enough information about uploaded mods. Every mod should come with a description of files to be installed, but no such thing exists, and you have to rely on the author's word. Another problem is how you "subscribe" to a mod. This means that you receive auto-updates for mods, and it doesn't delete them when you unsubscribe. This could be problematic if, for example, the guy who made that simple little fix mod expands upon it in a game-breaking way.

Bethesda even admits that you need to take certain precautions installing mods.

Obviously I follow good save-game practices, but it makes me wonder why I should use the Steam Workshop at all. Nexus Mod Manager does a wonderful job, and I feel like the Workshop just takes away from its legitimacy.

I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't this. I guess I expected Bethesda to coordinate with modders to make the best mods more available. I would have liked to see the most popular mods put in some separate category from the rest of the garbage. SkyUI is up there but there's no indication as to how essential it is. It's up there with the rest of the trash mods. Anyone else feel the same way about this?

Well, you are one of the few who actually was excited about Steam workshop.

Even for people (actually, especially for people) who just want simple mods and have no experience (and want none), it gets a bit rough there, because they keep repeating how it's all plug-and-play simple and Steam will do it for you, except for it isn't and Steam won't. I wonder how come every bellow-average modder knew it will not work as advertised, but Valve and Bethesda didn't.

And from what I saw, lot of the bigger mods use the place just to link to Nexus, which is kinda funny too :)

I am very disappointed in the steam workshop. I was so convinced that it was gonna be great, I even fought with people about it. But know I see, and I apologize. There is no search function, and many mods (that work on the nexus) are broken on the workshop. The nexus mod manager is a much better program.
