LoEhad
I am currently trying to overwrite vanilla textures with modded ones but am being thwarted by the lack of 'special permissions' over the textures folder. There does not seem to be any clear way to give myself special permissions, which are apparently necessary to overwrite the files. I am administrator, but even so can do nothing, even when employing my priviliges. The tick box for special permissions in the security tab of properties is greyed out, so I cannot interact with it. Any potential solutions? (I am on Windows 10 btw)

Purr4me
4 win 10 command prompt under admin, type help after ID of version you have. The old DOS menu commands will become available to you. There are steps needed to remove all the constant updating of permissions the OS is creating 24/7/12. A lot depends on how your set up and version used. Purr4me
Thanks a lotDiscussions about whats needed for windows 10 tweaks will and does depend o it's versions being in use today. 10's updates, are effectively Obsoleting older software usage on systems VIA auto updates. This being so, there is a tremendous amount of errors seen posted here with the games as an after effect. They are doing this on purpose. It a lot of work to stop them from damaging your PC's OS or their software. If your suffering from possible permission issues, it is DUE to them or their updated security programs finding app's on the system they do not support any longer. Its' known that MS updates are "criminal" in the manner of distributions. So, it goes, it requires a bit of knowledge of preventing these things from damaging your OS before they get a foot hold on the OS. If you understand this? I can possibly help to a certain extent. A lot depends on your knowledge level. Above, in the screen shot, you can see the command used to ID the OS you have. I need to know this because it's a two way street. The more info I have from you, the better I can help you. (ver) is a command, RT systems will follow commands directly from the path seen. Older systems , some versions require C: or C:\windows\system32 path to be accessed directly. Games, all games were developed for the system XP, older versions of the kernel and associated file system. Path / install paths are current for console machines as they use older systems so the publishers create their software tobehave along those lines. Windows 7 and above are Office operating systems, they are not gaming systems. Understanding this clears a lot of facts up about whats going on. Microsoft is not interested in games on PC's, they may oblige the user base to make things work to a point, most games are ported to the PC but were designed to fit hardware that has zero access as a PC has. Support HAS been removed from most systems for PC games / is targeted and is deliberate.Path = C:\Program Files (x86) and Folders... is the common parts games install to, even through steam. The problem is the permission issues are assigned for software protection and acceptability for Licensed software accepted By them.So the OS updates control all of this. Built in Obsolescence.--------------------C:\games\Steam is better or any drive. But this / these words "Program Files" is the target search parameters used by the systems setup security files. Trick #1 is to eliminate that from taking place------- in the first place. Do not allow any OS to "write that" on it's own.You must stop an install in mid flight and rename the install path to anything other than those words. Any mods you may download that were written within this Environment will have restricted access to them on certain types of files MS is targeting. This is just advice..a heads up so others read it and get it. Microsoft makes Money by forcing the user base to adhere to their wants and needs. They do not care about your needs, they care about what their stuff is doing to make them money and sending metadata feed back with out you knowing this. It's all automatic. Forced on you. I am an Insider IT, and I am working with thousands of others in the media versions, attempting to keep games and or graphics media culture interested in using the new systems. The differences are this, the operating systems are office programs, that in turn sell more software restricted to a more solid base. in the process, limits what can or can not be used on their systems, so they basically must approve of those programs in order to digitally sign the files that can not be used in an incorrect manner by passing security. Yeah, there is a lot of things going on in the background. This is really stuffy, not really too interesting because it's changing every day.---------------------Trick #2. Boot into the hardware's Bios and simply change the year date back 1 year to unlock massive amounts of locks. Custom locks are removed in safe mode only, you can not change them openly or even under admin, this has changed.attrib is a command line command that used on the Entire hard drive to remove all attributes which will allow changes in safe mode to even take place and hold. It's a lot of work. While in graphics UI mode, booted into windows safe mode, windows 10 requires your assignments to be removed and replaced. This is Only if your system was subjected to the latest security updates. This is also pertains to the version of that system.Look closely to the version shown in my shot. you might notice its ten pro 32bit. (x86) raw. That means I can access game tools a hell of a lot easier than 64 bit systems. There is a masked attribute for the games currently built to run in 64bit, these are encrypted game files, built in such a way "version controls " are in-place you can not over ride/ hack, reconfigure or what ever might be thought of to over come their construction. They have designed the games own tool set to operate under very very specific controls and rules tied into the networks. These tools were given out so to conceivably convert across platforms AKA console support as an upload from a PC. People here, mod authors and skilled others attempt to over come this but have found out just how badly it seems to fail. Few, very few that know what I am try to tell you here, know how it works and have zero issues creating mods or editing the games files what ever they may be. Permission issues is a windows 10 Microsoft issue. "Install path" Known paths taken into consideration keep you guessing. The bios trick can UNLOCK a hard drive that stopped booting, this is from MS zapping your OS or hardware deemed Obsoleted. They want you force you to spend more.
