Gaming Computer Clock Speeds Help.

I bought SSE some time ago but haven't been able to play it due to having an older computer. I'm looking around for a good gaming computer but am not sure what clock speeds I need. I know Nvidia PC's are better optimized for SSE, but AMD Computers are way cheaper. Having said that, I'm probably going to go with an AMD machine, but I am unsure of which one to buy. In order to make it easier I just look for the clock speeds of the CPU to start. Then I look at the graphics cards in them. I've read the recommendations on 'Can you run it', but it doesn't seem to mention what clock speeds I need.

My olde4r machine clocks at 2.8 Ghz with 5 gigs of intergrated video ram, and it doesn't begin to touch this game, although I can play a decent game of Skyrim 32 bit reasonably modded. I would really like to run SSE in full Ultra or nothing at all because there is no other reason for me to upgrade when I can already play the game on my laptop.

So what are your recommendations as far as GPU speed and video graphics? I'm not looking to build a PC or to pay thousands. It's been atleast 8 years since I built a PC and that was on Windows XP, so I have no idea about all this new tech. I just need to know what speeds will give me what I'm looking for and I will go from there. I do have an older NForce 6M-A Version 2 motherboard sitting here I was dinking around with. It has a 2.8 Ghz AMD 64-x 4400 processor with 6 gigs of DDR2 ram. I thought it might could work with an upgraded processor, a good video card, and a copy of windows 7. Not sure if it's worth it to mess with. I had windows 10 on it and it was zippy enough, but I couldn't get any support for the audio.

Anyway, what are your thoughts? Anything cheap and good on E-Bay?

I would love to drop a few thousand on an Alien gaming PC, but I don't have that kind of money, so cheap performance is what I'm looking for.

By the way, this Motherboard I'm thinking about upgrading is an oldy but a goody. It is capable of using up to 32 Gigs of DDR2 Ram, which is impressive. I've also contacted ECM Elite Group Computers about using a AM3 socket processor, because I have read that this mother board is AM2 (+) processor compatible. So I am making some progress. I have asked them in an e-mail what the fastest processor is that I can install in it so I am waiting for their response with baited breath. In the mean time, for those of you running SSE on full ultra, what is your processor speed, and how much RAM do you have? I think I can sort out the video card issues, and I have a lead on a really good one, I just need to get this danged processor upgrade sorted out.

Me again, according to Can You Run It, the recommended AMD processor is the AMD FX-8320. I've been reading the specs and most of them say it is a 3.5 Ghz, or 4.0 Ghz turbo. So is it safe to assume that a 4.0 Ghz processor will do the job of Full Ultra SSE? Sorry I keep posting, but I am serious about getting a better PC put together, sick of my old laptop and it's limitations.

I run AMD. I have a Gigabyte 990FXA UD3 which can be got for under $200 I have a FX 6130 6 core CPU also to be had for well under $200 Then get some DDR 3 ram I have 16 gb. I had a couple of Nvida GTX 760 graphic cards in SLI that worked ok, but slowed up when thing on screen got real busy. I have since installed a Radeon RX480. That was spoiling my self. The GTX 760 are ok for starters. Just remember though 64 bit Sky rim is not limited to 4gb both with mother board and your graphic card. I have noticed when I am playing the game is using a bit over 6 gb of ram. I have a modular 1200 watt PSU , which may be a bit excessive, but it does future proof the the power supply for up grades. So what I am getting to is, as you indicated , you do not need to spend thousands to play Skyrim unless you want full 4k graphics and a photo realistic Skyrim.

Well, I slapped this PC together sitting here, ordered a windows 7 product key, and I have a faster processor and more ram on the way. I picked up a GeForce 790 ti graphics card, it will have a 3 Ghz AMD 64X2 6000 processor and 12 gigs of RAM. This build is finally gaming 32bit Skryim very well almost on full ultra even without the RAM and processor on the way, but it's sounding like I will have to do a complete motherboard and cpu upgrade, plus get an extra 790 ti card and a bigger power supply if I am ever going to play SSE with quality graphics. Thanks for your input. Looks like I'll be sticking with 32 bit Skyrim a bit longer. Bummer.

HAHA! I finally got SSE going. I installed windows 7 on the project PC, but I couldn't get SSE to start. I thought it was because I hadn't sent in my product key for it yet, but I only needed to install Microsoft Redistributable 2010. SSE launched, detected at Ultra and ran perfectly!!! Happy Happy Happy! My video card has 4 gigs of DDr5 ram, but the processor is only 2.3 Ghz with 5 gigs of DDR2. I haven't even got my upgraded processor yet. I order an Athlon 64x2 6000 and 8 more gigs of Ram, so I will have 12 gigs and as 3.0 Ghz processor. Since SSE is already doing well on Ultra, I think I will be in great shape. Goodbye Skyrim 32 bit. Thanks for the replies, Solved.....
