olimator
Right so i want to add a cooking spit to my camp mod so i open up the .esp of the original mod and the skyrim master file as you do, then I go and add all the things in and i cant save and just overwite the original mod cause its in use by the creation kit so I just save it as a new esp and then open that new esp up in skyrim and the only things there are the things i added to it and not the original things So I have no idea how I am going to update my mod :/ Edited February 9, 2012 by olimator
luthienanarion
In the loading dialogue box where you select your plugin and its masters, make sure you click the "Set as Active File" box when your plugin is highlighted.
bigblackguy
When you load your mod in the GECK, make sure you set it as active file. Thats how you edit mods.
direelite1134
I think if you choose your mod as the "active file" it fixes it, as far as I have noticed We all answered at the same time lol Edited February 9, 2012 by direelite1134
Korodic
you cannot have skyrim open while you are modding an esp, because it is already in use. Well you CAN have skyrim up, but you cannot save your esp while skyrim is using it, while skyrim is running.
jet4571
Running both at the same time is asking for problems lol. Also it kills my frame rates if I dont quit the CK to test my mods placement of items. 45-60 fps average to 10-30....

Also it kills my frame rates if I dont quit the CK to test my mods placement of items. 45-60 fps average to 10-30....Interesting, I rarely bother to quit the CK when I fire up Skyrim to test my mods, and I occasionally have slightly longer load times but that's it. (I do always quit Skyrim when returning to work in the CK, though.) Anyway, as to the OP's original question, I had the exact same problem, and it turned out to be exactly as others stated -- you have to make sure you set your mod to be the active file, otherwise you're only opening it up and creating a new mod that modifies your mod (or something like that...). Just make sure you click that "Set as Active File" button and you're good.
