Creation kit help

Right so i want to add a cooking spit to my camp mod so i open up the .esp of the original mod and the skyrim master file as you do, then I go and add all the things in and i cant save and just overwite the original mod cause its in use by the creation kit so I just save it as a new esp and then open that new esp up in skyrim and the only things there are the things i added to it and not the original things

So I have no idea how I am going to update my mod :/

Running both at the same time is asking for problems lol. Also it kills my frame rates if I dont quit the CK to test my mods placement of items. 45-60 fps average to 10-30....

Interesting, I rarely bother to quit the CK when I fire up Skyrim to test my mods, and I occasionally have slightly longer load times but that's it. (I do always quit Skyrim when returning to work in the CK, though.)

Anyway, as to the OP's original question, I had the exact same problem, and it turned out to be exactly as others stated -- you have to make sure you set your mod to be the active file, otherwise you're only opening it up and creating a new mod that modifies your mod (or something like that...). Just make sure you click that "Set as Active File" button and you're good.
