need to get rid of invisible follower

I've lost a couple followers already. The first one I obtained in the beginning of the game, loaded them up with a bunch of nice gear so we could fight together. Fast traveled a couple times and they disappeared. Forgot which bar/inn I hired them from and finally gave up looking and said screw it. The second one I hired, the same thing happened. Already beat the main storyline and a bunch of guild missions however many levels later. So I decided I wanted another follower. Everyone is saying I have someone with me, when no-one has been with me for the majority of the game. Is there a console command or something to get rid of the follower? If you can remember any names then we can tell you where you're likely to find a follower. I've found that when I ask a follower to wait and leave them for a long time. I eventually get a message telling me the follower got tired of waiting and has gone home. Go and search Whiterun or Riften these are good places to search.

My problem is somewhat similar as i have an invisible and unnamed follower stalking me everywhere I go and is not keeping me from (spoiler) becoming a werewolf. I have checked all my mods and found no solution and the Set playerfollowercount to 0 command does not even work. I need hellp asap as i am becoming very irritated with myself and the game as this has been happening on only one character and for at least 3 irl weeks
