DavidYokosukaJapan
Hi! Love Fallout Wanderer's Edition more than New Vegas! It's just THAT GREAT!! Anyhow, I have it installed on a laptop but wana transfer the whole thing to my desktop, which brings me to the question: Is copying the entire " \\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout 3 goty" directory over onto the desktop the best way to do it to ensure stability? NOTE: FOMM, FOSE, FO3Edit, and FWE are all installed on the desktop but it crashes a *lot* and the laptop's FWE install never crashes so I figure it might be easier to just copy the stable version over to the desktop, overwriting everything. If I can just copy over a few files instead of the entire directory, it would be nice, but if copying the whole thing over is better for stability, oh well I'll do that. Thank you very much to anyone who has advice! Best regards,Dave, the Vault dweller in Japan
davycrockett
well if you have it all backed up on your laptop re install from scratch on your pc but NOT IN PROGRAM FILES (X86) create a new folder "games" and install there outside of UAC cotrol UAC has been known to cause issues but ensure you UNINSTALL FO3 correctly simply deleting its folders leaves a registry entry which will cause problems when trying to re install assuming its a retail copy non DRM version ie not on steam you will have no problems ,there is a procedure for moving FO3 from program files but i don't know it so that's the best advice i can offer you . edit i should add that just copying the complete programme files folder wont work due to the registry entry plus there's the issue with differences in hardware the game on your laptop is configured differently to your desktop compare the .ini found in documents > mygames usually this will highlight the issues and if a game is crashy it could be for a number of reasons including incorrect utilisation of hardware ie .ini's not being configured correctly or an error in a esp/esm or bad load order when things go completely wrong i prefer to just start again from scratch . but look here for some answers http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Moving_Fallout_3_from_the_default_location Edited February 17, 2012 by davycrockett
