[LE] Player Animation Quandry

Ok. So I have this nifty dwemer compass model which when you use it gives you some options for placing markers and traveling to other places and lists your set locations, etc, etc. I would LOVE to further upgrade this setup by having it be an equipped item which when you use it it will hold the compass up to be seen in first person for a moment before launching the menu.

 

Now I've worked with Kettlewitch's spyglass which is a shield item basically and when you block with it, it does the salute animation basically, but I can't quite figure out a good animation to utilize for this. I could simply trigger an animation, but then the compass is not an animation object that would automatically show in hand like reading a book, or drinking would.

 

Anyone have any experience with this and have any recommendations? Thanks.
