Faivon
As you guys might know, there has been a number of high resolution skin texture (mostly for exnem) that has been released and the highest resolution I've seen so far is 4096x4096 px for imperial which also applies for other "humanly" race.I've tried them and they look really good but somehow I *think* it affect my FPS ...or is it just me? I need confirmation please. My standard skin texture is high res skin texture for Exnem which I think is around 2000 px something and my average FPS with Operation Optimization mod is around 20+, sometimes 15 but when using 4096 px texture, my FPS kinda drop to 15+ and the duration of time taken when I exit the game has increase a few seconds. Vagrant0
Is the Pope German? Of course it will affect FPS since more information is being processed and rendered by your videocard. Additionally larger textures take up more RAM on your videocard, which can prevent other information from being stored.
SGTBOB
Lol as for my computer for some reason no matter what high rez textures i use will remain around 78 FPS (this may be because i only have direct X 9)but vagrant is right your graphics GPU (graphics processing unit) will stop pumping out as many frames because many more calculations must be made to render the vast amount of increase in pixels take for instance my computer playing crysis at all low it does 73 FPS but on all High settingsdrops to 35 FPS because the difference in crysis from low to high is almost all just the resolution increase(with a few higher shaders ect.)but for all you high rez skin texture modders please add more contrast it looks to much like a barbie hope this helps-SGTBOB
Faivon
Oww...I though most performance is determined on the options menu :|So high res skin is like summoning 10000 watermelons in a a room, despite how big or small is your screen resolution.. Kinda funny to see a test race that I created create a lot of FPS drop while on the other hand the other race got no problem with that :P

Kinda funny to see a test race that I created create a lot of FPS drop while on the other hand the other race got no problem with that :PActually, 10000 watermelons in a room would probably cause more of a drain because of all the havok calculations than it would take to just look at them. Duplicated things (things using the exact same meshes and/or textures) use less memory than things which use different textures because stored information (in RAM) is being re-used rather than being cleared and reloaded for every instance. This is also why when building, you can make a very complicated scene using replicated elements run faster than if you had all those elements as a single mesh (A wall made of duplicated bricks verses a wall as a single mesh with the same number of polygons). And also plays a part in keeping framerates high in towns since most buildings within that town use the same dozen or so textures.
