ImaDomoSaur
Hey guys! Totally new to modding and I was wondering if there was a way to make an entire group of people wear certain clothing, like the minutemen, in Fallout 4 edit or another method. Is this possible? If it is, can you tell me descriptively? Thanks!
ImaDomoSaur
Oh also if any of you can answer as well, I was wondering if you can set a specific gender to a npc as well, like a certain raider or a Paladin knight.
Macrophobic
You mean factions? There are many faction mods, from simple inventory modifications to total overhauls. If you want to find out how they work, just open them with Fo4Edit. If you want to make your own mod, I would recommend the Creation Kit. Let's start with: some NPCs are named, unique, but most are randomly generated. You can just edit a unique character in the Creation Kit and change his outfit by choosing from a dropdown list. But with generic NPCs things might be quite complicated. I'm just working on "faction" outfits for scavengers and caravan guards. When I tried to create a sub-faction inside Diamond City Security and equip them with police gear, I learned generated NPCs use templates, which use other templates, which use other templates, which use a basic template (named like "template00") and the basic one is the one you can edit, like change outfit, inventory, stats, traits. It's like a matryoshka doll. To change some of DC guards to policemen, I had to duplicate and rename all their templates. And that's not all: inventory of an actor/template, as well as an outfit assigned to it, can consist of just a single item, like shirt and jeans, or use generic lists of items, depending on levels the player character is (leveled list). And this list consists of other lists, eg. "setltler with a hat" and "settler without a hat" and the one with a hat has a list of possible hats and a list of other items, and this other items may include either variants with armor or without armor, and the one with armor would use a list of armors and a list of underarmor etc.
Desie
Oh also if any of you can answer as well, I was wondering if you can set a specific gender to a npc as well, like a certain raider or a Paladin knight. You're the only one who has attempted to explain this. I have an armor mod that has outfits that I want Diamond City Security to wear. I am still a noob when it comes to FO4edit. Would you be willing to explain what you would need to do to have the Diamond City Security wear certain clothes instead of their baseball uniforms and gear? I know you posted this in 2017 and its now 2021. Hopefully someone can help me still. Thanks

Thanks Yo, find their outfits (in outfit tab, or search in all tab, named diamond something or other) you can create lvl lists for their armor (underarmor, chest, legs, helmets, etc) then put them in their outfit tab. If you want them all to wear the same thing with no variations, drag and drop the armors into their outfit tab. I have way more experience with the creation kit than fo4 edit, so to me its easier in ck but idk everything fo4 edit can do or if its as simple as ck.
