t3chstep
Hi, I'm a new member; a bit new to the Elder Scroll series but am enjoying Skyrim a lot. I'm also noticing how straight forward and intuitive the modding processes are. As far as creating mods I've never done it but it seems like something that could be picked up pretty easily. I have a few ideas and I'll try to keep them separate. This is the first and, it seems like it would be kind of fun (not to mention a bit humorous in an anachronistic sense). The only thing I'm wondering is whether the programming can be done. I get the impression that creating models and meshing them isn't too bad (albeit I don't have 3DSMax) but some of the other things like voice and conversation prompts or interfacing that with dropdown dialog or sort lists (such as coming up with essentially a dial-by-name NPC directory) might be considerably more advanced. Regardless here's the overview: Skyphone (Talos) Two main purposes: - To avoid those trips across Skyrim when you have an NPC you need to talk to to complete a quest and where no exchange of objects, money, or action is required - you're simply going there to talk. - Call a follower. If you're in a ruin somewhere outside of Solitude and think Mjoll would be of help or vice a verse, your around Riften and want to call on Joris you could call them up and have them generate at the nearest entrance in about 5 seconds. With the mod the phone would be acquired at Balethor's shop (or if Whiterun is leveled it could be purchased at any of the other general stores). To dial an NPC would require a pop up screen in which you'd enter the first two or three characters of their name and from there you would get a drop down list. Parts and programming: - cellphone with mesh and character animation- link to conversation programming- highpass and lowpass filters for NPC voice (not terrible phone filtering but some)- text entry for calling NPC- exclusion of conversation requiring exchange- if no non-exchange or non-action dialog is available with particular NPC (ie. Ancano sacking College of Winterhold and you try calling Tolfdir or try calling Astarid after first attempt on emperor) message comes up "User out of network (action required)" Anyway if someone wants to take a stab at this or, let me know at least if there is any game architecture that would make this highly impractical.
