strawbqwerty
I have some follower mods that at the moment will not port to Skyrim SE. Have done the big three. Meshes, textures and run the esp through creation kit. The esp now in SSEedit shows it is the right type for Skyrim Se. The followers are basic types with no special scripts or custom voices. I have read that the new skyrim some times changes cell data and this can cause conflicts with old mods. That and the location of the follower is already loaded with npc`s. So i decided to move the follower to a quite new cell . This is where I am having a few issues with creation kit. I can load the esp, i can click on the npc and bring up the actor panel and that is as far as creation kit lets me go. If i try and preview the npc creation kit crashes. If I try and edit anything and save creation kit crashes. I deleted the cell that the npc was in with SSEedit and then tried to place the npc into a new cell and creation kit crashes. This had worked with another npc with no problems at all. Now i`m two out of two npc mods with creation kit crashing.
thumbincubation
If it's crashing in association with an NPC that has custom meshes, double check that the meshes are ready for SSE. I've had both the game and the CK crash, when I've tried to use Oldrim meshes, without doing the SSE prep for them.
thumbincubation
If you have done the batching and they still cause a crash, try taking another copy from the oldrim archive, do the steps in nifskope, but then make sure "auto sanitize before save" is turned off. They say it should be on normally, but I have had a few (Armor) meshes crash, even after doing the batches. Tried it without auto sanitize, and they started working. I've also had a few (static) meshes crash if I didn't use auto sanitize, so it seems to be just picky, and if one doesn't work, try the other. strawbqwerty
Hmm nifskope, scary. Looks like another process I am going to have to learn about. All I have done so far is convert the meshes with the mesh converter found here on Nexus. Textures i use Xnconvert that converts all DDS files to DXT5. I have noticed that a lot of NPC mods that the eye brow files are DTX3. So instead of checking every file a just run them all through Xnconvert. When i run a old npc esp through the new creation kit it doe sometimes generate new face tint texture files, so far only tga which are useless and shows how little Bethesda cared about converting the creation kit for the new Skyrim. thumbincubation
I have only used the converter once, and I ended up having to do nifskope anyway. Try this. Open an oldrim mesh in nifskope, and do the following steps Spells > batch > triangulate all stripsSpells > batch > make all skin partitions * change Bones per Partition to 60Spells > batch > add tangent spaces and update Check that "auto-sanitize before save" is off, and save. It should then be usable in SSE. If not, try it again with auto-saitize on, but I've only had one, so far, that has made me sanitize, and that was a frankenstein piece that had been cobbled together from a couple of oldrim mods. strawbqwerty
I had awhile ago down loaded nifskope but never used it. Should have taken the plunge back then. Did as posted above except the auto sanitize, which in this case did not brake anything. Mod loaded in creation kit and I was able to preview the NPC. So saved it so the esp was yet again updated. Mod works in Skyrim SE. So thanks to those that encouraged me to use nifskope. For the bit I need in nifskope it is easy enough.
