tehx3n
I Had a plan for a mod that edited some creatures stats, i started off by creating a cell and placing one of each creature I planned to edit in it so I could easily test them without having to go out and find one. I placed two frost trolls, but i discovered that the changes only affected one of themm so I went out and found the one on the path to High Hrothgar. It wasnt affected either. to be completely sure I turned the frost trolls health down to 1 and added a few weapons to its inventory, but when I tested them I found that only the first troll had on health. however the rest of them had the weapons in their inventory. I found the same was true for the troll on the path to High Hrothgar. I went into the CK and dropped a few more trolls down in my test room to see if they would be affected. To my suprise not only were they not effected but the first troll now had normal health. I'm not sure whether this is a bug or just a mistake on my part, but I would greatly appriciate any insight you can offer.
sulmithgreysin
so you're opening the skyrim.esm, then saving your work to your new .esm, then opening skyrim or NMM and making sure it's checked to load, then hitting play? when you save your changes to an .esm it doesn't overwrite the skyrim.esm, just changes what gets priority on the load. for instance, the name of the frost troll on the way to high hrothgar is called LvlAnimalMountainSnowCustomIceWraithFrostTroll. you can type that in the object window and use the ALL tab to find him quickly. when you double click his name, you see all HIS info. the bottom left is the template, it's WHERE he gets his info and when the box is checked, that tab on that form isn't something you can edit now, you can UNCHECK the tab's template box (let's say you want to make that troll taller, uncheck the TRAIT box and edit his height, you run into issues when you go + or - .5, just looks funny) now, he's taller, so you save your NEW .esm which simply alters that troll's height. that .esm needs to be in your data folder, you can save it directly to that data folder so you don't have to move anything. when you start up skyrim and make sure it's checked in the data files (your new folder and the old skyrim folder) he should be taller in the game if it's a problem, remove that .esm you created and it's back to normal
