FictionInfect
Having installed in meticulous detail Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul and Phinix's DarkUI using the Oblivion Mod Manager, taking great care to follow every necessary step save the installation of the OOO 1.31d patch, which I gave up after having received numerous error messages to the extent of "can't create a new file, but must in order to proceed". Reading up on it, I found that it simply altered one parameter - the alignment of the GhostWarrior faction - in order to allow for sneak-attacks upon a creature called a Spectral Warrior without penalty. Judging this superfluous, and considering the difficulty I had in installing it, I decided to skip it. Next, in the OBMM, I activated both of them with all the bells and whistles, in the process ignoring two missing element warnings, as I thought them to be a natural part of the process. I then opened Wrye Bash and updated the NPC leveling in my save files in order to keep playing my current character with OOO. I here encountered an error which didn't permit me to close the application. Using Task Manager to end it, I then tried launching Oblivion. I got past the BethSoft credits, but within a second of entering the loading screen, Oblivion died horribly without any sort of useful error message, only a standard Windows "This app died and I don't know WTF went wrong". Going through my mod list and deactivating the mods one by one, I encountered the same problem every time. I then disabled all of them, save the Oblivion esm, and ran it. Same problem. I am now officially out of my league. Is there any way to salvage this installation and the hours of work I put into installing these two simple mods? Tamujiin
Okay, I can tell you are pissed but hey, its only a game.......Let me help you. OBMM is good to an extent, but the bug is obviously in the phinix UI if it CTD to desktop after the Beth screen but before a save load. Most UI's change that screen, Try downloading and installing Phinix UI manually. That is where you have to drag it to your directory and MERGE Either the Data folder ( if it is in one ) or the texture, meshes and what not. if it is not in a data folder make one and put it in there. ( personally i use DarnUI ) Also if you tried to change the FONT don't bother with that play it with the normal font. It shouldn't be OOO, cause it just adds a bunch of stuff and "tweaks" a bunch of game settings and stuff. if none of this works try downloading DarnUI and do a complete reinstall, just back up your saves, saves are in your MY GAMES/OBLIVION/SAVES folders and such and such. Just relax it will work again i have had to fix stuff alot too............... OR! it could be your computer cant handle a hi-rez UI. if thats the case don't use phinix, use DarnUI ( yes DARN!)
