RupertBoyes Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 I've never played any of the Grand Theft Auto series and feel I need to rectify the situation. I was thinking of jumping straight into GTA V but am concerned my laptop will struggle: i7 4910MQ , 8GB, GTX 860M. Should I give it a try and just minimize settings if required or could people recommend a better place to start, maybe San Andreas or GTA III? Cheers
830bet Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 You could start with Vice City (With the Vice Cry mod, which updates the graphics. Look for it on ModDB), it has a great soundtrack that helps a lot with immersion
kraag Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 If you are used to playing modern games, anything before GTAIV/EFLC will be sub-par regarding graphics and visuals. The RAGE engine was a huge step up for Rockstar.
RupertBoyes Posted May 9, 2017 Author Posted May 9, 2017 Since Vice City is only $10 I'll give it a whirl - Thanks for the advice! Will it run on Win 7 OK? I've been playing computer games since 1981, so old school is fine by be!, thanks for the heads up on the RAGE engine - good to know.
830bet Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 (edited) It should run ok, specially if you install Vice Cry mod  Enjoy it P.S.: After VC, I suggest you playing Liberty City Stories rather than GTA 3, you can do it with a PS2 or PSP or Android emulator. Story line is more entertaining, it features necrophilia (you will discover the dark side of a not so important VC character, which has a more central role in LCS)! Edited May 9, 2017 by 830bet
Skagens Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 I recommend you start with Vice City and then playing the games that were released after, in the order they were released. I was very young when I played VC the first time but I remember having some good fun. San Andreas is regarded as one of the best and most memorable of the series, and for good reason. I had great fun with IV as well, with Rockstar really nailing the emotional impact this time around. And then lastly V which was, imo, a real step-up in terms of everything, especially in the Multiplayer aspect if that's something you fancy. Good luck and have fun!
iXenite Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 As far as your laptop being able to run GTA V, it should run it just fine. As for the order you should play them, personally, I think it's best to play them in the order of release (starting with GTA III, you can skip the first two).
Korvmanen Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 Start with San Andreas mate, nothing beats hunting for Big Foot for several years, yes years, only to find out your "Friends" have been lying to you all this time.
