Can't buy any houses

Hello!

 

I can't seem to be able to buy any houses in Skyrim. I have tried with only the vanilla houses which we can buy after we are the Thane of that place. I get the option to buy the house and when I click on it, I get an option to make a payment of X amount of gold. But if click on that, no gold is deducted and the house is not bought... Any assistance will be appreciated! :D

EDIT - on a side note, is a weapon mod which adds a pretty cool looking crossbow/bow/sword with high (really high) damage?
