The .Rar format is a compressed file (zipped) You can unzip it using 7-zip which is free - Rar is a for pay format with a 30 day free trial.

7-zip will unzip the .rar and almost any other zipped format you find on Tesnexus files. Its also available on Tesnexus here http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15579

The 7-zip is a self unziping program. after you save it to your computer, just click on it and follow the instructions.

The only difference I have seen with Vista is it uses a different path than XP.

When you click on a file to download, you should get a pop up box with three options.

The first should be 'Open With' followed by a file type such as 7-zip, winrar, notepad or something else. The small down arrow at the right will allow you to change what file to use to open the file. It will make a guess as to what file to use to 'open' the file on the internet. Don't use this as it will not download the file at all.

The second should be 'Save to Disk' This is the one you want. It should then tell you where it will download the file to and give you the option of changing the location. I use a folder on the desktop labeled 'Oblivion Downloads' for all Oblivion related downloads.

The third is a square instead of circle. 'Do this automatically for files like this from now on'

If you select the first and the third, It will always try to run the file (open it) on the internet and not copy it to your computer. This is good for when you are looking at video files on the internet that you only want to watch and not keep. But bad for downloading mods. The 'Files of this type' refers to the file type displayed on the line with the first selection.

If the file type displayed is 7-zip, winrar or some other zipped file format, and you select alway do this' it will put all files of that type in the default folder without telling where it put them. My recommendation is to not use the 'Do this Automatically' option

If you do not get this pop up, you have probably marked the third selection. I don't recall right now what you need to do to get the pop up window back. It may be different on other browsers (I use Firefox).
