Zihark
So, i got my game back from Bethesda for repairs and reinstalled it on my computer (yes i made sure there was no trace of Oblivion left when i deleted it) after words i got a couple mods, Rens Beauty Pack, the Unofficial Patch, Lerra and Pizz Hiyoko store, Realswords bosmer, and unique companians, i also installed Shivering Isles. However when i start oblivion when it starts to load everything (before the main screen comes up) the game shuts down, even if a disable all the mods, and one site i went to said that the .ini file might be corrupted and that i just had to delete it and the game would remake it, that didn't fix it. Any ideas on whats wrong? EDIT: someone told me defraging my disk drive might help, trying that now, post any other fixes in case this doesn't work. :thanks:
Kurupt52
what version of oblivion do you have, e.i. original Oblivion, or the GOTY edition. are you patching the game before installing the expansions, and have you tried the unofficial patches for TES and or any other site. If that doesnt work. Also are you using OBMM and OBSE. some mods require one or the other and somtimes both
bben46
While Unique companions does not say it needs OBSE, It does say that part of it is based on Companion Share and recruit - which does require OBSE-V0014a. Shutting down on start is what happens when you need OBSE and don't have it. It probably also needs the latest patch. If you are using Shivering Isles, use the SI patch only as that contains the Oblivion patch in it. You might also want to check the forum threads for more info on the other mods. Zihark
i got the original version, and I'm patching after installing the expansion (right now acctually, gonna see if that works after defraging), and i got the unofficial patch from TESnexus, and im not useing OBSE or OBMM, if the patch, and defragging don't work I'll get one of those. thanks for your help
Kurupt52
I would at least try to get OBSE, considering most start up crashes with a moded game is the result of not having it. Not always but alot of the time
OnyxNightBlack
But his game shouldn't crash because of OBSE when all mods are disbaled. Personally I would try reinstalling the game and starting it "bare", meaning only official patches, if even that. If that works, install one mod after another and start the game after each one. Usually that method works to find the culprit. P.S.: Installing OBSE is a good idea anyway. Might be I am wrong and it solves everything. Anyway, many of the more interesting and/or innovative mods need OBSE, so it's not a bad thing ti have it.
bben46
Good advice by Onyx. He's right, it should not crash with all mods disabled unless there is something wrong with the game.
Zihark
Defraging is STILL going on -_- but i paused it for a minute and reinstalled Oblivion and ran it without mods or anything, the problem was still there :wallbash:
OniYurei
Could you post a copy of your DXDiag.txt? Just go to start>run and type "dxdiag" (without the quotation marks) in the box. After it finishes scanning click "Save all information". Save it to your desktop or something (somewhere where you can find it) and then post it so I can have a look. I can't promise It'll help but it'll give a pretty good idea of what you're working with. EDIT: While you're at it, make sure you have the latest DX9 installed. You can get it from Microsoft.com. If it's crashing right before it loads the Oblivion main menu then it could possibly be a DX problem where it's unable to properly render the images in the background of the menu. Kurupt52
Not to sound like an ass, but i do have to ask the question. Are your drivers up to date? I cant tell you how many times ive helped my friends with game problems and the fix was a simple driver problem. Most pple just take it for granted that pple remember to update their drivers regularly, but the truth is.. most casual players dont even think about them. So check that and make sure your drivers are updated and that you have the right ones. I deff. know how frustrating this must be for you, so im raking my brain trying to think of anything else that it could be
