OnyxNightBlack
Wait a second, your gamedisc has been damaged and repaired? Are you sure it's working correctly? Sometimes a messed up gamedisc installs empty or corrupt files, which in turn could be the reason for your problems. Your problem is not related to mods obviously, drivers might be the reason, but are unlikely aswell, seeing your game won't start bare. So maybe, just maybe, the installtion process is your problem and the disc is still damaged.
Tamujiin
Sounds lke he needs obse..........if your disk isnt all scratched to hell.......and your drivers are updated.........try a new install and dont patch or add anything. see if the game works. if that dont do it it is your disk. if the game works it isnt your drivers. it will be a mod conflict. to be honest i think its a problem with the unofficial patch and windows vista, but i dont know your O.S. when i have the patch and all its components activated ( OBL, SI, DOORS, DLC) the game crashes on me. even when all other mods are deactivated. In all actuallity i have around 100 of the best mods going at once and none of them require the Unofficial patch, so i dont use it and i havent had any problems yet that super annoy me. All though i would like to play all my mods with the unofficial patch....................but ill make a new thread or search for that topic! SO DONT HELP ME HERE! bben46
If you suspect the game disk is still messed up, then you need to do a complete uninstall before installing again. The normal uninstall leaves behind your data folder and your save game folder as well as some entries in the registry. I have never seen any problems with the registry entries and manually editing the registery is a last ditch fix as a mistake there could make your computer unbootable. The simplest way to get rid of the others is to rename them - that way you still have all of your saves and mods if you need them. These instructions are for the XP as that is the most common.Go to C:\Program Files\Bethesda\Oblivion\data Rename the \data to \oldata. That is your data file with all of your mods. now go to C:|Documents and settings\your user name\My documents\my games\oblivion Rename the \oblivion to oldoblivion. This is your save games & ini files. Now uninstall Using the oblivion disk. Reboot your computer - this is important! Then using the disk install Oblivion. before doing anything else start the game and make a save. This initializes some stuff that needs to be initialized. I recommend playing through the training dungeon before installing any mods or patches or anything. That should take about an hour. By the time you get out of the sewers you should know if it is going to work or not. If it still crashes, its not your mods or anything you changed. To see if it might be the disk, try to install on another computer. If you see the same failure on 2 computers, its probably the disk. If it works on the other one, we might want to look at the registery.
WoogieMonster
I only quickly scanned through the posts, so I may have just missed if anyone mentioned this already. You reinstalled the game from clean, correct? When you started it up for the first time, you should have been prompted with a message saying that Oblivion needs to be configured to your system. If you made those settings higher than what your system is capable of, then when you start Oblivion, the game will crash as soon as it detects that your system can not perform at the levels you set. I've also heard several people say that you should keep unofficial mods deactivated until you are out of the prison tutorial for the first time. Zihark
Ahh i didn't know that when you uninstalled it didn't get rid of the old save files and ini files >_< it was trying to load up the save files i had before the disk was damaged, when i had a ton of mods so it wasn't able to run them properly. Thanks for the help everyone :wallbash: :thanks:
